It's important to deliberate on the details of a particular window of violence towards the mid-20th century for the sake of historical accuracy, but it's equally important to acknowledge a great loss occurred. I worry that the glib nature that so often comes with debunking established beliefs about these events does far more harm than good.Obviously, if you're going to joke, this is the place for it. Absolutely, no disputing. But many are scarred, either through stories passed down through generations in their own family, those still alive who witnessed the time period themselves as very young people, or just the understanding that many lives were lost (quantities/methods notwithstanding). Compassion over everything needs to be a factor if you want to take this discussion to anywhere that isn't an edgelord corner of the internet, and what's more have it taken seriously. Flies, honey, vinegar etc. Probably memes about the topic aren't that deep so I'm sorry about casting a pall on the atmosphere. I just figured I'd voice my thoughts about it here since even gray opinions are condemned outside of places like this.

@chris As far as the law dictates, I agree with your commenter. Strictly speaking, the security of the government was violated. The legal consequences of that are vast and explicit. The US government does not take security failings lightly. If forgetting to take off a jacket will earn you an aggressive pat down from the TSA at an airport, then entering the Capitol outside of the acceptable times carrying various types of weapons will absolutely destroy your life.That said, I agree that this was not the egregious, violent "insurrection" that people are saying it is. More people died in the George Floyd riots the previous year. Insurrections by their very definition are brutal. There was 1 on-site death and it wasn't even a politician. No politicians were even harmed. If this was truly an insurrection, the Capitol would have been a blood bath.What this was, was a group of idiots with delusions of grandeur. They wanted to act high and mighty for five minutes without weighing the potential consequences of their posturing. Ultimately harmless, save for the computer theft. I actually feel bad for a lot of these people. However, it's necessary that they're made examples of in the public eye, so more organized efforts are discouraged. At least, that's the message I would want to pass on if I were in power.How was the reaction from the powers that be going to be otherwise?

Feeling sort of bad for Abigail Shapiro. She has a legitimately decent singing voice and the top youtube result for her singing is some shitlord video with MILKERS on the thumbnail. She really should have gotten a stage name/been more crafty about her "Classically Abby" videos.

@verita84 The opera world is kind of archaic. Projecting the clean-cut, professional, conservative image is pretty important. Directors have qualms about taking on singers with any kind of easily traceable baggage. Obviously it's not the end of the world for her. She's obviously from an incredibly privileged background. It's just sort of a shame.

@verita84 Nah- no great tragedy. I just got bored today and thought "Ben Shapiro's sister sings classical music." and wanted to check it out.And she's pretty good. Idk if she was ever going to have a very strong career, but she has a good voice. I kind of know that world and so it's hard for me not to empathize a little about an emerging professional whose baggage isn't really her fault.

@Matatjahu I don't know too many people who want to objectify classical singers. Ben Shapiro's sister? Probably. But if she was able to hide somewhat behind an opera-sona, I think she would have been less conspicuous.
