       @Miles @leo I think Oligarch just means extremely rich and influential. In the case of Russian oligarchs they became so through the Russian kleptocracy.Considering that many Silicon Valley oligarchs use their riches in questionable ways I think the comparison is sometimes apt.

       @leo I started using Emacs at Uni, probably 30 or more years ago now. I used it for years after uni but my use trailed off and I completely stopped about 10 years ago.

       @tiago on point 2 I would expect to see other instances blocking an instance that serves ads and paid priority. On point 3 this used to be called “embrace, extend, extunguish”. Embrace the technology. Then “improve it” by extending it. Then let the original die because standards became fractured. Microsoft were masters of this.
