Traditions are very important, so @maximilianh and myself have returned to our 30-year-old habit of playing DOOM II E1M1 deathmatch over the holidays 😁 And just like all the previous years, I'm losing by a hair's breadth - 22:21 today. Next year, I swear 😉

There is a sliver of hope in the CVE insofar as it says: "To trigger the vulnerable code path, an application on the target must be bound to a raw socket." But I do fully expect some obscure Windows system process floating around that does exactly this, so... 😑

We've all suspected this one, but here's an actual experiment: if the people deciding on grant proposals get only a 1-page summary instead of the full proposal, it doesn't really make any difference. 😑(Probably even more noteworthy: even if both panelists see the full proposal, they're only in agreement 53.4% of the time, which is basically random chance 🙄)So it's all one big lottery, who would have thought.https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s11192-024-04968-7(via @nielsvanberkel, thanks!)#academia #grants
