Explanation: In, say, the anime community, "fanservice" just means lewd bits in the work to get people a bit horny. It's, weirdly, not exactly a good thing.In the MLP fandom, since the show couldn't do that, "fanservice" came to mean what it should, the creators acknowledging the fans. Bringing back fan-favourite characters, referencing fandom lore, that kind of stuff. Stuff that may not mean much to a casual viewer, but makes the fans feel seen.
