Unfortunately there is still More Water surrounding my house, currently immobilized by weather but threatening to invade when temperatures increase. Tuesday calls for a high of 35 with no precip, so fingers crossed for a nice gradual, gentle snowmelt from here so I don't have to tear apart my office again

Upon further investigation, a big part of the problem this time around was a downspout that had clogged with ice/detritus, backed up and leaking right onto a corner of the foundationSo on the one hand, feel like a big dumbass for missing something in my control, on the other hand, more optimistic that we'll be able to prevent this from happening in the future.

Obviously the usual socioeconomic factors are at play - there are definitely "food deserts" in the twin cities in less fancy neighborhoods. But I've been to plenty of nice places where they have "Kroger, Whole Foods, the other Kroger", no idea why I have so many options
