Don't forget origination fees (even on simple interest car loans) are usually based on a % of the total value of the loan assuming you take the full term. This is why car dealers try to get you to take the 6 year over the 4 year and tell you just to pay early. The 6 year would cost you more if you actually paid it over the 6 years, and so the resultant loan origination fee is higher (which is why they get a commission on). Works similar for mortgages.
