@luckytran @NMBA What do "vaccines, home tests, and effective treatments" have in common? They're products sold by Big Pharma. It might not be CDC corruption, but be wary of solutions that create profit for corrupt enterprises.#COVID

@barnibu if we're being pedantic, it's actually stuff that uses the Chrom*ium* browser framework, but yeah. One of many ways google has influence over the internet. Use Firefox!@narF

@bytebro @linuxtechmore Brave is definitely better out of the box. If someone was interested in privacy but not very tech savvy I'd tell them to install brave. But if I could go in just a little more detail, I'd get anyone to install Firefox and ublock origin, and *maybe* tweak a few other settings, but probably not

@freemo @lowqualityfacts In that case I will remind you that shooting people for committing crimes is rarely justifiable, both morally and legally, unless you're "standing your ground" which for some reason gets a carveout. Despite the fact that there is no legal way to stand your ground as an indigenous land defender. Hmm.

@thenewoil Unfortunately, they don't recommend any specific software for disk imaging or automated backups on Linux!I'd love to have a solution that reliably copied changes to an external drive

@thenewoil @Sh4d0w_H34rt @Tutanota @protonmail Yeah, this is like watching CalyxOS and GrapheneOS (mostly prompted by Graphene) fight. They are never objective in these situations, they will always use different advantages to claim their service is better without offering a reliable comparison.

@thenewoil "We challenge claims that Switzerland isn't a good base for companies that wish to protect your privacy"Oh, Proton. Tuta just reminded us that Switzerland isn't an impenetrable wall against government surveillance. They didn't say it's a bad location.

@thenewoil On the note of privacy friendly browsers, Firefox for Android wouldn't let me open the site because it uses the HSTS protocol. Never seen that before, as far as I know!

@thenewoil Sorry, the markup seems to. Firefox is always in HTTPS-only mode (at least on desktop) but in this case, Firefox specifically said that I can't add an exception to be able to load the site - the message implied that HSTS isn't supported at all

@thenewoil A simple solution to this would be going back to a separate reference sheet, physical or digital, for torque specs, instead of literally connecting the device that controls bolt tightness to the internet. Yeesh
