       @futurebird As a Minnesotan, I have some frustrations with Walz, but I think he's the right pick for this moment. One big thing he has going for him is that he can be pretty safely replaced; we have a perfectly good lieutenant gov and aren't likely to flip at the end of the term. Unless I'm misunderstanding, plucking Beshear out of KY would have cost the Dems a governorship.

       @futurebird I don't know! I guess you could say that some epiphytic bacteria make plant surfaces "cleaner" by excluding or outcompeting pathogens, but the specifics of that are pretty far outside my area!

       @Nonilex It's truly a little shocking to me that this isn't a top news story. Agents trashing a building, making off with people's valuables, and hauling naked children into the backs of UHauls? We used to accuse the media of being sensationalist, but they're evidently too defeated even to report on a genuine sensation these days.

       @futurebird It's not that ICE is at protests, it's that observers are at ICE kidnappings/attempts. We aren't exaggerating when we call this an occupation. The kidnap squads are roaming all over the state, and densest in Minneapolis. This particular one was apparently actually Border Patrol, but they're all getting called ICE as shorthand.

       @futurebird They're brutalizing brown targets everywhere, but they've reserved the worst of the violence against white observers for Minneapolis, because it's the city that they and their base hate the most by name, and also where people look the most like "activists", so violence there suits their content creation mill the best
