@erlend @pluralistic Worse, having priced incumbents out of the market, once they fail to monetize and die, there's a big, empty market left over. Worse, because that market's been disrupted once before, few people want to try to fill the void in the near term (part of why I hate Google's tendency to buy their way in and eventually shutter companies/products they've bought).

In general, offloading to a third-party key-auth mechanism is going to avoid the "stale keys" problem.Similarly, combination of configuring SSH to ignore locally-staged keys, configuring sudo and/or SELinux to prevent random users from creating local accounts and having good monitoring/alerting in place goes a long way towards solving the "rogue accounts" problem.
