Do you think it's fair/justified that #AppStore and #GooglePlay take a (quite substantial) percentage of each every transaction in apps they're shipping and that they refuse to ship apps with alternative donation/payment providers?

Sometimes we get concerned inquiries about apps in #FDroid targeting old #android SDK versions. Targeting newer SDK versions does strengthen the sand-boxing, but it also breaks features used by apps. Google puts those kinds of restrictions in because users donât trust proprietary apps, since most are constantly trying to steal user data. F-Droid reviews all apps from source to prevent that, so we donât need to break features to gain privacy.

We are currently dealing with some server issues making it impossible for users to check for updates in F-Droid. All apps shown in the app can still be downloaded. We're aware of the issue and working on it.

Here's a short post mortem for the server outage on Friday and Saturday: A syntax error in a configuration file slipped onto our production web-server. At the same time the server responsible for assembling our website experienced download timeouts when fetching app-listing metadata, which made troubleshooting extra hard. We've added additional tests to catch this type of error before they get a chance to interrupt our services. We're also working on improving web-server architecture.
