@kyle Absolutely I do. Especially after discovering that my mother put a label on the ryijy wall hanging she wove for herself when she was in her twenties. It’d been hanging up in my parent’s living room almost all my life but I’d never looked at the back of it! After she passed and I inherited it, I saw that label there. It gave me such joy to see it!

@kyle It’s a slightly edited compilation of published (three times a year) journals from the Complex Weavers group. Lots of research, experimentation and innovative ideas in weaving. I just recently joined, so I thought I’d read a few back publications.

I've crossed a weaving milestone! I made my first ever repair heddle. I'd come to the end of my threading and had a warp thread leftover that I shouldn't have. I found the skipped shaft smack in the middle and set myself to fixing it, slowly backtracking and correcting until I got to the spot. And then... I did an Internet search. @kyle @weaving @fiberarts Oof! It’s a lot of work to backtrack and redo, but it’s worth it in the end. I fear I might need to create some floating selvedges for this one too - luckily I’m at the start of it and just sampling, so no work yet to unravel. Sometimes I think most of weaving is getting set up to weave!

New weaving project! The warp is a merino/silk blend in a beautiful varigated green and gold. The weft is a peacock blue tencel. I'm hoping this 8-shaft draft (#26924 from Handweaving.net) will give a lovely peacock feathers look with these two yarns. We'll see - I haven't sampled yet. So. I’m not entirely happy with how the sample came out. Entirely too much weft - this lovely warp yarn just disappears under all that and I’m not really seeing the pattern either. It’s pooooooosible I didn’t do the lift plan (table loom, no treadles) properly but I doubt it. I’m not sure whether I should try a finer weft or a different draft (but hopefully same threading) altogether. Thoughts? @weaving @fiberarts #weaving #handweaving #weavingdraft

@kyle Looks like it definitely was sett, though once I get that done I suspect sampling will reveal I need a different weight weft yarn as well. I might switch to some 20/2 silk and see how that goes. I'll do a wraps per inch test this evening. As for the draft structure, it does have a fair amount of floats, but no, it's not strictly a twill.

@kyle That would be my understanding of this draft. I didn't *think* it was an overshot but its an intriguing solution too. I'll keep that in mind in case the next sample still doesn't work out quite right.

@consumableJoy I started with the Kromski Harp and I loved it! Still have it and pull it out on occasion, despite my floor looms. Super quick to warp, so great for quick projects. I later bought a used table loom from my local guild. An old Schacht. Very inexpensive and wonderful to learn on. I did a beautiful doubleweave on it. It can be a bit slower, but I think that helped me learn what I was doing. Now I have an 8shaft Louët table loom and flipping the levers is speedy!
