I made a comment about knowing guys with $10,000 worth of coffee gear on their counter. A buddy waited until today to ask if I was joking. KF 1800 coffee grinder, $13,995Slayer Espresso Three Group (cappuccino maker, does not include a grinder), $32,215.00You could spend $10k on fiddly accessories without blinking. You can buy a decent house in some parts of the world for what you pay for a really top end espresso setup.

@RoyBrander I've had coffee from a multi thousand dollar machine, thousand dollar burr grinder, etc. I can't tell the difference between that and my Breville, and I'm not sure I could tell the difference with the $109 espresso maker I just bought. I can tell the difference between an Americano and drip coffee, but that's about my limit.

One note -- $5bn in savings is wrong. The overall costs to the federal Treasury, from this criminality, is now in the tens of billions, will eventually be in the hundreds of billions -- trillions, finally, if it crashes the economy as it might.

Don't fall for the highest crime city roundups. This is a conservative gag, intended to focus on areas run by liberals. The most crime ridden places in the U.S., per capita, are counties full of conservatives.

Look, if you don't get what's happening, I can explain it very simply:The Republican Party exists to tax you and give your tax money to billionaires. That's it. All the rest, all the bigotry and religion and kidnapping and threatened wars, exists to distract you so that they can continue to steal.I could write a million words worth of analysis and not get significantly closer to the truth.

Erectile dysfunction, various "meet this twenty year old girl" services, and divorce attorneys, feature prominently among my recent ads.The business world certainly has an opinion about the services I need.I've been *looking* at health clubs. Not one ad. "He's not serious," they've concluded.

When a conservative says "the poor will always be with us," it is a statement not of fact, but of intent.

Economic policies and racism are only mildly correlated, historically.Southern conservatives used to be pretty comfortable with the idea of redistributive policies. That was before black people had a chance to get some of it though.

Go back 70 odd years and the Democratic Party, which was strong in the South, was racist and in favor of redistributive policies. The Republican Party in the same time frame was mostly pro-civil rights, mostly northern, and mostly pro-business.Watching the worst parts of both parties coalesce into the modern Republican Party has been interesting.

@Susan60 @VulcanTourist "I think our compulsory voting, preferential voting system & independent election authority" ...I wouldn't bet against twenty or thirty billion dumped into your election system by hostile forces. "It can't happen here" is almost always false where fascists are concerned. Any shred of power they get will be used to subvert, and the billionaires backing them are patient.

Onward and Upward ...I won't post on Fashbook again except for something important. There's a few thousand people over there I'll have to say goodbye to, but I lost a considerably larger number when G+ went down, I'll survive this. They know where to find me.

Started swimming in mid-July, and until now, have been documenting it there. I've Had Health Issues -- going back a few years now. Spent time in ICU (twice) summer 2023. It was all weirdly dissimilar stuff -- the world's largest kidney stone, which cost me a third of a kidney -- dizziness that three different doctors argued heatedly about being a stroke (probably wasn't, there was no sign of it on scans) ... a reaction to Ozempic that nearly killed me.

(Not given Ozempic for obesity, for actual diabetes, what I believe it was originally for.)Two summers ago I started walking and doing inclined pushups. It gave me plantar fascitis and sore shoulders.Went back to basketball -- managed to injure *both* a knee and shoulder in a single bangup with my son. You know, a *friendly* game. That injury lasted six months -- March to about September of this year.I'm 62. In my life I've had to give up running, boxing, biking, and basketball.

So I started swimming. It's been harder than I expected, but any new activity is prone to that, hey? First I swam using a stroke I invented, The Moran, which had me on my back and doing a goofy half butterfly-half backstroke, which had the sole virtue of not hurting my shoulderrs.I swam a mile that way, which was my original goal. Got it down to a mile in 70 minutes -- 50 is considered tolerable for old men.

So I went to the Reposity of Human Knowledge, Youtube, run by fascists, yes. And taught myself how to swim the backstroke properly. It's *much* harder than what I was doing. But ... still haven't injured myself, I'm swimming faster, and this morning, did my first third of a mile with just that actual proper backstroke. (I mean, I'm bad at it. A swimming coach would cringe. But it's a legitimate swimming stroke I didn't invent myself.)

One of the things that slowed me down with Mastodon -- been here near 3 years now -- is that I write long. So at this point I'll either go ahead and stand up the server I've been talking about over a year, at Hostinger in Lithuania, or just switch over to an existing server that permits long posts. Either way, soon. Gotta get the important parts of my life out of fascist hands.
