Hey there,I am a security engineer and father of two sons. All the time left besides job and family is spent on my homelab in a rack in the basement where I play with new ideas and technologies and contest or validate what I believe to have learned.

@seb I was lucky enough to get a Nutanix branded Supermicro 2U4N system (NX-6155-G5) with 4 Nodes (2x12 Core Intel E5 v4 Xeon, 512 GB Ram, 6x2TB SSD per Node) from a customer. It's totally overkill but I run the full VMware stack there. (vSAN, ESXi, vRealize etc.)Primary guest OS in use are Windows Server 2022 and Ubuntu Server.I am playing with graylog, wazuh, arkime (fka moloch), opensearch, velociraptor IR, sublime security and some security products from the vendors we use at my dayjob.

@foone How old is the printer and power supply? Probably electrolytic capacitors which lost their capacity when made between 2005-2015.

@foone We called them mechanical mouse. They were replaced by optical mouse (Red LED), infrared mouse (IR LED) and then laser mouse (IR Laser).

@foone Not that far from it there's USB +Power, however it doesn't use the normal power pins.

@GrapheneOS I think it is always ill-advised attacking competitors, no matter the reason. It would be better from my viewpoint when GrapheneOS had a FAQ page listing the points that are listed against them and the answer to rebut the point including references to code/forum posts etc supporting it. So I don't have to search for social media for it but can refer to this FAQ page instead.

@GrapheneOS I think the problem is that I am only seeing your side as I am following you on mastodon and don't follow them anywhere. So my timeline is full of you saying that you are harassed but I am not aware of the harassment you are experiencing.I don't know if it would be a good idea to make public those false claims and attacks or if it would support the attackers, but as I said at the moment I only see you and never saw the attacks.Just as in a domestic violence cases where outsiders only see the victim snapping but not the attacks it would maybe good to have a diary collecting evidence on the attacks.

@foone 2km is really far of what is possible and the USB host or driver will just disconnect the device long before due to excessive retries.USB 2.0 will do about 5m (Full-/Hi-Speed), then the signal is too degraded for a reliable connection. With an active cable you can do 25m. For USB 3.1 this is 3m and 18m respectively. The same if you use Hubs, maximum length is the same due to signal run time.USB doesn't really have effective error correction, for example USB 3.2 allows 1 in 10^12 bit error on the cable before you get into trouble. If you want more you can use USB over Ethernet where the USB Host is in the adapter, but this is cheating as the USB part isn't really any longer.

@foone You can enable file auditing for the Modify action on the folder and then trigger a scheduled task on this event if you want to use built in features.Or you can use something like https://www.joejoesoft.com/vcms/170/
