I was just looking up some articles I needed for work, and I realized a major thing that bothers me about #AI as a search engine. I very rarely just want "an answer", unless it's pretty basic ("what's 50 inches in centimetres?"). I want an answer from a source that can be verified, vetted, interrogated. An AI word salad mashing multiple sources together is useless.

@stux I never found a source verifying the data for it, but I remember seeing a Top Ten Global Trash Producers list where nine out of the ten were junk food manufacturers (Coca Cola was definitely on it), and the one that wasn't was a cigarette company.

@maegul @UlrikeHahn It might be even more basic than that.I have an English degree, and work in IT (UX design). When I first joined Mastodon, I thought I could only see and post to the instance I was on. "It's like email" didn't help me picture how it worked until I already knew how it worked. And now I love it, but I needed to experience it to understand it. If someone has the wrong info and is already overwhelmed, they might not be willing to try.

@fivetonsflax @clive It's three exposures -- neither mirror shows how she's actually holding her arms.I think the larger point is, the photographer took one photo and got a triple exposure without asking for it.Which raises the question of whether someone can just take a non-gimmick photo with a phone. It reminds me of the abstract light pattern photos I took on film, whose prints were ruined by the developer slapping "no charge" stickers on them, assuming they were accidents.

@BrodieOnLinux @cassidy I do look forward to being able to do socials with family members without actually joining Facebook or Instagram

@clive @philmoscovitch Just have some Benadryl (or your preferred antihistamine) on hand. On top of heart palpitations, hives are a possibility.

@textfiles The thing is, Disney has closing to Mickey for so long that I'm sure many children would be surprised to find out he was in cartoons. He's just this mascot/branding figure.By constantly extending the copyright, they've buried their own content.
