@stux I really wish I could get out of this country. I legitimately worry about being gunned down anytime I have to go out into the world for something. This is one of the worst countries to live in.

@stux the military trains constantly with guns, yet “friendly fire” was a large percentage of the casualties in our endless, pointless war. Why? Because even with lots of training guns are deadly and it can be hard to know who is friends or foe in a stressful situation. It’s also easy to miss. Most people here with guns don’t really know how to use them, not have the temperament to use them. A “good” guy with a gun is apt to make things worse, not better. Also guns are not protected under the second amendment. The militia (military) having guns is. It’s just written poorly, and people see what they want to see. Also it was written at a time when most guns could fire at a whopping two or three rounds per minute. The folks writing that could have even imagined the weapons we have today. Ban all guns, is what I say.

@stux @exsangus yeah, if enough people do it, too, the world will change. People always think it’s too hard, but we humans have started small movements that changed the world over and over again. It’s just so hard to see when you are down in it. I like to try to zoom out as much as I can; it gives me hope.

@ohiorob @stux I am hopeful that the lack of algorithms, the lack of an influencer centric model, and the ease of blocking instances will keep mastodon friendly, safe, and nazi circle jerk free. Or at least they can do it on their own completely isolated instance. Of course, that could lead to a radicalizing echo chamber, but those already exist anyway…

@Astro_Jmona @ohiorob @stux I feel the same way; not to equate being an autistic online to being the same as what women online have to go through, but this is the first social media place I have ever felt safe, too. I also love how many scientists are on here!

@stux I am over two meters tall, I know this pain well. The world is not designed for anyone who is tall or short. We tall people always develop back pain, because we always have to lean over to do anything.

@stux I was expecting to be offended, but he knew exactly what he was talking about. Something inside you dies when you are poor. Capitalism and greed is the ruination of our species. Get rid of poverty and I think so many other things will fall into place. Fighting poverty is more likely to solve the global warming crisis than carbon offsets that don’t do anything at all.

@stux this is another argument in favor of a basic guaranteed income that is enough for people to live fairly comfortably on. People will worry more about making the world a better place, rather than worrying about how much money they can make.
