@mjg59 this previously happened with the telephone. (Before that I guess there was always paper forms, filled out in person. And the government would make an attempt to teach everyone to read and write, at least in the last ~80-100 years.)FWIW public libraries in particular tend to be the last “government funded” attempt to bridge this gap (ie public access computer/Internet at low/no end user cost).

@mjg59 OS2 Museum has several delightful bits of history in making early DOS / PC / OS2 bits work again. That wunderBAR story is particularly delightful!

@textfiles we’re they for drop shipping or against it? 🤔(Personally I’m happy with drop shipping, sometimes prefer it, providing I know up front that’s what is going to happen: it often enables efficient “buy from distributor that won’t do quantity one retail sales”. Surprise drop shipping: not a fan.)

TIL that several modern cars use CAN Bus for so many things that they end up with externally reachable CAN Bus connectors (eg behind headlights). And for “wiring simplicity” they use the *same* CAN Bus for these externally reachable connectors and functions like the vehicle security systems 😬(CAN was designed to be an internal, trusted devices, bus, so it doesn’t have much built in security, beyond “can physically connect :-/ )https://kentindell.github.io/2023/04/03/can-injection/

@swetland @vik raspberry pi pico (SC0915, non WiFi, no headers) is NZ$8.22 quantity 1 at PB Tech, plus shipping but including taxes. Which is a bit over US$5.Quantity 10 is NZ$71.05 inc taxes (plus shipping), so NZ$7.105 each, which is just under US$4.50. (Order with something else to avoid shipping overheads 😃)Unless that US$4 includes taxes and I think y’all are quibbling over pennies and exchange rates.https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/SEVRBP0318/Raspberry-Pi-Pico-SC0915-Microcontrollers-Boardhttps://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/SEVRBP0335/Raspberry-Pi-Kit-Pack-Microcontrollers-Board---Pic

@vik if you’re making a special trip to a store double check their stock online first (via those links, “check store stock”), as not all of the stores had stock of both SKUs today. Also FWIW both DigiKey and Mouser do “free shipping over NZ$60” (or similar) which has been useful to me in the past.(And yes PB Tech card fees and shipping do add to costs. I suspect you can avoid card fees by paying by bank transfer.)

@mjg59 assuming you value public disclosure over any bounty money, and want to try to do the right thing, I’d say set your own rules of engagement (eg as Google Project Zero did).Eg, mail security@ (and any other contacts you can find) N times over 90-120 days, keep records, publicly disclose after 90-120 days with dates of attempted contact. Refuse bounty programme if it is suggested. If they only will accept via the bounty programme they care about publicity control, not security.
