Slept for a full 8 hours in a reasonable timeframe last night! Feels like a miracle :evwow: I switched to taking my melatonin gummies two hours before I go to bed instead of 10-20 minutes and they seem to work way better now

GitHub added a feature recently where you can review PRs with Copilot!I am actually 100% behind this feature and think it is great. While I have mixed feelings about the use of LLMs for coding in general due to the implications for software quality, I think this one is very likely to improve it. Especially for the many projects that do not already have a strong review culture. It already caught an oversight for me 😄

@Shini92 I think the robot one I work for here is more into early adoption of this stuff than other German companies (probably not too surprising that robotics people are more into AI tools :D)I haven't looked into GitLab Duo much yet though for our internal repos, I should check it out as well!

@yura they're quite handy! especially since you can plug them into a monitor and keyboard and then you can almost entirely replace a PC for gaming

We went to visit Czechia for the weekend! Coming from Australia, it's still wild to me that you can just get on a train for a couple hours here and end up in a completely different country with a different languageFavorite place in Prague was the "Grotta Umělá jeskyně" which is an artificial structure designed to seamlessly imitate a natural cave formation, very goalsBoyfriend won three online chess matches in a row while we were resting inside, says it gave him good castling energy :ww:

I have a theory about the experiential divide on gen AI use, which is:1. If experienced people use AI to produce work with high quality standards, you often won't be able to tell that they used AI2. High quality work is rare in general, while AI tools became rapidly accessible to huge populations3. This means the vast majority of AI-assisted work observers actually witness is low-quality / beginner workGood taste and quality control are valuable skills in general, but *especially* with AI!

I'm mainly talking about software here (which I know more deeply) but I think this applies to art as well; here's a great example of what you can get from combining image generators + actual good taste https://andymasley.substack.com/p/a-ton-of-ai-images-ive-made-that

A funny part of running an instance is that you get moderation reports on your own posts!I'm a bit sad that even nuanced discussion of AI can induce the extreme response that an authority must be called in to do away with me.That's actually why I feel it's important to talk about it! I've seen friendships dissolve in extreme contempt over AI stuff and it's so stupidly miserable.Being "kind" is first and foremost about how you treat other people. Let's not repeat the mistakes of Twitter.

I think a good model for how to think about acceptable social behavior on this is: veganism!I personally think that meat consumption is a serious moral and environmental issue and that humanity should probably knock it off.I would still rightly be considered a huge jerk if I went around publicly shaming people for enjoying their steak or working at KFC or whatever. It's just not a useful or helpful way to engage with people.

Saw a job ad today where it looks like someone just pasted the hex codes for the ASCII of their actual job description :ww:Maybe it's meant to intentionally filter out low-effort (bot) applicants? Pretty cute if so, though I'm curious if it's legal given the fairly strict German job market laws

@yura !! project time, good luck!!for hobby programming projects stack choices, I think it's also good to consider: what do you most want to *learn*?If you like to look for a coding job in the future, it might be good to pick common choices which people would look for expertise in when hiring

My boyfriend is playing some kind of 100-person low-fantasy voxel game civilization roleplaying event where he strikes trade deals on behalf of his Venetian city-stateEvery time I look over his shoulder now he's getting a Discord message like "I have discovered the whereabouts of a fine male duck, might this perchance be of interest"

I have a lot of respect for CDN providers like Cloudflare and their work, but a big personal one is that they made Australia no longer feel like a second-class citizen of the global internetBefore people started making freely available geographically distributed edge nodes, most websites would hit an origin server in e.g. us-east, which meant user experience for the indieweb in Oceania was heavily bounded by the speed of light

If you find yourself engaging with stuff on the computer that you don't actually enjoy (e.g. depressing news sites): consider switching the language settings to one you are not fluent in. Then you either stop doing the thing, or you learn something useful from it. Win-win!
