As a purveyor of snark myself, it's not surprising I have snarky friends. Case in point from @james in @Podnews today: "Podcast analytics company Backtracks is to close. An email to customers gives three weeks notice. In spite of significant email marketing, the Podcast Index showed that just 191 podcasts were using Backtracks as a podcast hosting platform in February, and 253 podcasts using the company’s prefix URL. The company had raised $3.7m of funding."#podcasting

@seth He’s in good company. I did it at 7 in the Bible Belt, which got me *very* good at arguing with adults who hadn’t a non-credulous bone in their bodies. It’s amazing how the skills I developed in the 10-ish years after are still useful today.

@seth Yep. I traveled with mine on a short by-car trip to Vegas and discovered it had snapped off when I went to use it. So now it’s an ornament, and I’m back to carrying a small interface and an SM58 when I travel. XLR, FTW.

@james So, replicating what Libsyn has done (make static-image video and upload to YouTube) for 15+ years. Meh. I don’t see these getting enough plays on YT (so YT can place video ads) to keep YTs interest for long. Unless this YT are being methodical and executing the first steps in a larger strategy. History has me skeptical of that, but I won’t rule it out.
