@shellowl @aral y’all read Michael Bazzells books or listen to his podcast? He’s convinced me Apple is the only phone currently that can be set up to be private...at least internally.

Someone should compile an “everything good that’s come from the covid19 lockdown” master post.

I just saw something about how Mount Everest is visible from Kathmandu for the first time in decades thanks to COVID lockdowns reducing air pollution. This is good news and I’m feeling that good mood boost. I want to compile a single master list of good things that have come from the COVID lockdowns. Please send them my way. This is a boostable toot and a toostable boot.

@salixlucida this is good to keep reporting and keep sharing. We need to stop this. It’s been going on for a long time. No more!

Watching Altered Carbon and a Max Headroom inspired character talks about keeping VHS tapes because they’re “unhackable” and that really got me thinking about modern uses for old tech.

At my day job, one of our members was hacked over the weekend. The attackers deleted 100% of the files on their computer, as well as cloud backups.17 years of business gone.

Ok here’s my plan for mass adoption of decentralized mesh internet:Before I get to the plan, we need to address the elephant in the room. We’re basically starting the internet over. It’s going to be a lot slower than what we have right now.The masses won’t adopt something until they can play games and watch Netflix on it.We’re not there yet, so the masses won’t adopt it.Now to eat the elephant:We need to approach from a different aspect — safety in case of catastrophe. We need to get a mesh relay in every home as a “backup” in case of natural disaster or other catastrophe. No need to even bring up the goal of total decentralization of the internet. The masses don’t “get” that.Different people will have different concerns in this, so we will need to learn who we’re talking to.“Know your audience” as the comedians would say.“Preppers” are an easy bunch to sell — just play to their paranoia. They need a mesh network in case the internet goes down. Some preppers are afraid of the government, you can take that aspect. Most seem to be fairly conservative in politics so going from the “corporations are bad” aspect won’t work. The best bet is to play to their fear of national collapse...that’s what they’re most afraid of.And again, approaching from the catastrophe protection aspect is the only way we’re going to get these into every home.Pick natural disasters in any specific area when talking to people in that area. When Florida gets wrecked by hurricanes, we often go days to weeks without power, which means no internet. We all have smartphones but when everyone in an area hops on their phones at the same time to stream Netflix, the network gets bogged down. Some people are just trying to send a message to a neighbor...those are the people local mesh networks are for.Tornado alley: tornados knock out power.Earthquake areas...also easy. The main thing is: if we can get mesh networks into more homes than less, positioned as a “backup in case of national disaster or other catastrophe,” it’s going to be much easier to get mass adoption moved from the centralized corp+gov internet and moved over to a mesh network. It’s going to take a long time. This is not an overnight solution. There is no overnight solution.

I see a lot of open source software projects that do not do a good job of describing themselves. It's okay. There's nothing shameful about that. Most programmers aren't writers.Just like most writers aren't programmers.I can't code to save my life, but I can write some killer copy and content.Know of any open source projects that need copy written?I want to contribute.

I'm working on my exocortex/second_brain today but I'm now struggling between Roam and WordPress.Roam is about 10x more efficient, but WordPress I can share publicly.

Another benefit to WP over Roam is that I can export everything from WP but Roam right now does not have that.Which means I'm trusting Roam 100% to keep my second_brain running.I have no control over backups or exports.
