@Kolomona @ChadF @adam @41504 @merryoscar Not only is Podverse open source, but it's on F-Droid, which is like the good housekeeping seal of approval for real open source.

@thedrizl @adam Because evil British internationalists from last century are a dime a dozen and require dedicated study to differentiate any particular exemplar from the mass?

My first V4V managed PeerTube instance https://christian.freediverse.com is not only been very helpful in troubleshooting PeerTube's ongoing Object Store issue, but actually sent some value in return for the value I've been providing to the instance. Been working for years to improve and assist adoption of PeerTube, it's amazingly satisfying to start making financial progress.Still have several VPS systems with year long subscriptions for aspiring Instance sysops who want to try V4V managed hosting.

Beat CORS and http/https mismatch into submission. Have a PeerTube instance working with an internationally distributed Garage data store. There are so many options in S3 compatible data stores it blows my mind how many people make it rain cash on amazon.Set it up for some big channel imports to stress test the creation side. Time for a nap.

So far so good. A few hundred CC Music videos worked without issues over my nap. Pushing a complete instance video library of 13k vidoes and 2T data now.Feels good to finally be seeing the end of this ops issue so I can get back to concentrating on dev issues

Moving the videos is going okay, looks like it's gonna take ~3 days. That may in part be due to redlining the single cpu core the instance has.To up the performance stress testing just started moving a 1.2TB instance on a 56 core server simultaneously. so far going well and still playing videos without skippingPerformance is comparable to the SeaweedFS object store while offering complete redundancy between to the 2 sites

@wjmaggos If we collectively had access to all #ccmusic we could.

@wjmaggos The vast number of distribution methods would probably require a fairly large collective for anything remotely comprehensive, but with that caveat, yes

@nhripps @cstross @davew @jwz @davidgerard Knee jerk rejection of a new technology because *some* early adopters use it nefariously is a common example of "natural stupidity."Banning Torrent protocols because of piracy, banning cars because Bonnie & Clyde used them as getaway vehicles, etc.An open source camping companion AI trained on nothing but public domain boy scout manuals and boy's life articles would be pretty sweet when hiking.

@wjmaggos Yes.A viewer-centric default instance for new users. Once onboarded and using PeerTube users can migrate out to decentralized instances that better match their needs for creation or supporting favored creators.

@3dcandy @wjmaggos >why?Because the biggest hurdle for new users is instance choice anxietyBecause small instances frequently go down ruining the experience for users.Because ~90% of users are content consumers, not creators, and don't benefit particularly from the decentralized part of the infrastructureBecause now with the export/import support viewers can easily migrate off the default instance when they decide to become creators or migrate to a particular instance.

@silverpill @wjmaggos @3dcandy Some do, some don'talmost all want a simple address they can go to to experience PeerTube and joinpeertube is much more user hostile than they are looking for in a default site.>I think there might be other ways to alleviate instance choice anxietyMe too, but they are on the dev side and not available yet. Until that point the ops side should be doing what it can.

@StevenB I've pondered this and there are Issues.- With fiat you get gatekeepers and anti-V4V policies. - Any crypto gets a ton of push back from listeners and creators due to media FUD. Monero or Hive will get an order of magnitude more push back than Bitcoin.- Have yet to find a non-crypto non-fiat micropayment system that didn't stink incredibly of scam

@StevenB That being said, the guys at https://cast.garden have a #PeerTube plugin that supports a ton of podcasting 2.0 tags and has value blocks using Hive. They support various hive based micropayments in browser or PWA, but I don't know of any apps that support them directly from the RSS yet.

@tchambers @wjmaggos >Rumble has become a home for all the far-right, fringe conspiratorial and hard-right content like no other. The owners actively promote thatThey don't promote far right content. They promote center right content, and host far right content. There are few free "free speech" options for far right channels to go to when kicked from Youtube and Rumble is clearly the best of those technologically, except for the VC funding, paid creators, tracking, ads and enshitification.
