@futurebird It could also be a thermostat setting that uses degrees Celsius.Typically, refrigerators would be at 4 or 5 degrees Celsius (0 being the freezing point of water). This tracks with 1 being minimum and 10 being maximum (degrees Celsius).

@Nonilex Who's really pulling the strings here? From my uneducated perspective, I don't see how anyone in their right mind would want that guy in the pound seat, unless there's an upside to balance the obvious bat-shit cra-SQUIRREL! downside. So what *is* the upside? Buy-a-POTUS? Buy-a-pardon? Buy-a-SCOTUS? Buy-a-Congress?Short term, I can see how this represents obvious utility for crooks in suits. But long term? Dog help the society that goes down this route.See also: Putin's Russia.

@Nonilex He made his bed, including:- Using woefully out-of-their-depth negotiators Kushner & Witkoff to head negotiations with Iran- Acting with little regard to the advice of people whose job it is to estimate and consider consequences of various actions- Neglecting to manufacture consent within NATO, including with allies whose territorial integrity he has repeatedly & illegally threatened- Failed to justify the incursion within the framing of International LawNow he gets to lie in it.

@Nonilex If I didn't know any better, I would be forced to conclude that election interference and an anti-EU, pro-Russia stance has now become official U.S. Foreign Policy. Which implies that the USA has officially become an adversarial state from an EU perspective. This then begs the question:Is it is now fair game for individual European nations and the EU to begin campaigning for democracy (and therefore against the MAGA movement) in the USA?Food for thought.

@Nonilex The revealing bit is that this post is self-referential ("he was made Pope because of something something to do with me"). That's a classic Narcissist trait. For some more insights on the mechanism behind the behaviour on display, see:https://www.notesfromthecircus.com/p/the-supply-crisis

@Nonilex Easy for me to say, but I'm not surprised that IBM (of all companies) decided to roll over.It was infamously selling hardware and services to the German Nazi party for the purposes of helping with "national census data, military logistics, ghetto statistics, train traffic management, and concentration camp capacity."(source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IBM_and_the_Holocaust)I'm assuming that the management of IBM would like to be able to bid on contracts with the modern American equivalent, the GOP?

@aral I take it to mean that you think all similar religious texts should also not be sources of truth then, including the Quran, the Torah etc.?This is not an attempt at being facetious btw; I'm genuinely curious about your stance. For my part, I get the sense that many of these texts are trying to impart cultural lessons about how to survive as humans in a society. I would imagine that these cultural lessons would tend to evolve over time, as humanity as a whole learns more about the world?

@Nonilex Re. the flattering and lying:The people around mad dictator Joseph Stalin acted similarly, since they risked execution if they told him something he did not want to hear. They would talk to him through state media in terms of things that hadn't yet happened, but might help the country, and then hope he gave the order to make it actually happen.Secretary Rubio has begun adopting this exact strategy wrt. the framing around having access to NATO bases abroad from what I understand.
