@team Sorry, Internet Archives was in the wrong here. You can't just copy and distribute copyrighted works without compensation. There are legal ways for libraries to make ebooks available. What IA wanted to do was stealing from authors and publishers, and anyone who appreciates books should stand with the creators here. (And note that while large publishing companies are the ones who can afford to bring this suit, small publishers and authors with less reach are also impacted.)

@elizamccarthy My understanding is that in theory, they are only loaning the digital bootleg to one person at a time. But a new digital copy has to be created and sent to every person who checks it out, and there's no way to actually "return" those copies, so people could hold onto them indefinitely. The fact that we're going to have a fighting chance to protect democracy, have fair maps, etc, is huge, but I honestly think abortion was the driving issue in this election. It's more personal, less abstract. I can't describe the way the fall of Roe hit me, how violated I felt, even though I'm not likely to need abortion care myself at this point in my life. It's visceral, and you could feel that energy in this election. #WisconsinSupremeCourt

@KimPerales I'd like to think this is true, but Jill Karofsky also won her seat by almost 11 points in 2020, so it's not really "numbers nobody has ever seen." And Wisconsin also somehow re-elected Ron Johnson just last November.

The US should put limits on how cold you can run your air conditioning, like some countries in Europe do.We're in a heat wave caused by a climate crisis driven by fossil fuel consumption. It's self-defeating the amount of fossil fuels people are burning up to cope with it. And it's ridiculous that I have to bring a sweater into a movie theater or restaurant when it's 90+ degrees outside.

I'm seeing rumors that the Covid boosters might only be recommended for elderly and immunocompromised people. This story cites an expert who serves on the FDA panel that reviews vaccine data as saying that the vaccines are not intended for everyone and that the general public should not expect to receive them this fall.
