#donkeyoftheday 61:A book with the title “Lions Led by Donkeys” appeared in 1927, by Captain P.A.Thompson, but the phrase gained popular currency when re-used by military historian Alan Clark. But the origin of the phrase goes back to 1855 when The Daily Journal, an American newspaper, quoted a Russian source at the siege of Sebastapol describing their British enemies as “an army of lions led by donkeys”. UK food shortages feature in today's headline story in the Sunday edition of Spain's El País which is comparing food price rises in Europe. @grammargirl What's the opposite of "quiet quitting"? In my last year before retiring from teaching, I took on the management over trade union rights for all staff; I invented a satirical character in work emails to annoy the school owner; and eventually got thrown out of the door, before winning a court case for unfair dismissal (with compensation). Is that "loud quitting"? 😁

We have posted pictures of donkeys nearly every day since.I'd like to thank all the donkey keepers for the work they've done - in particular by observing a near 100% ALT text discipline - so our lovely donkey pictures can be enjoyed by less-sighted Mastodon readers.One issue we had recently is the hashtag being occasionally used for other purposes. I shall go back over 8 months of all my posts and remove #Asstodon, substituting #Mastodonk, and we'll see whether the hashtag or the content was the actual reason for people viewing the #donkeys here! I have my own very clear opinion here, but no betting offices are offering odds on it! 😀
