@futurebird @kim_harding Meanwhile, nobody's interested in the thing we have right now, today, that's literally 10x safer and much more fuel-efficient than cars (transit).

@futurebird I've basically been playing house for the past 45 years. I do have some pieces that were my parents' and parents-in-law's, but also a lot of thrift store stuff.

@futurebird Incidentally, just in case anyone on this thread is a fan of either or both, I just finished reading a very good Murderbot/Queer Eye crossover: https://archiveofourown.org/works/27673253/chapters/67720394

@futurebird Completely agree. Tangentially: It is terrifying to be an older person in the US whose wealth is tied up in their home.

@futurebird Are there interior design books for boats? B/c that seems more like the appropriate scale.

@futurebird An art school might have advice on this (I suggest art school vs. museum b/c the solution's less likely to be super expensive).

@futurebird I wonder how long it will be before companies start "fake advertising" in annoying or offensive ways for their competition's products. There's a particular brand of sour cream I won't buy because I hate their jingle. There's a local shop I won't patronize because they have a racist slogan. We got a coupon in the mail for a free pizza that was apparently defective or fake--I wonder if it even came from the pizza place whose name was on it.

@futurebird At our house it was my dad & his "only 1 kind of jelly can be open at a time" and since we weren't well-off he bought HUGE jars of jelly. Grape for months. When my middle sister grew up, the very first thing she did when she got her own place was buy 2 jars of jelly and open them both.

@futurebird God only knows how I've scarred my kids. They're all still talking to me though, and I did get kudos for allowing them to experiment with eating pancakes in the bathtubm.

@futurebird A story about serendipity and seizing the moment: When i was getting my Physical Therapist Assistant degree, our class raised money so that some of us could attend the American Physical Therapy Association conference in Boston. I was one of the ones who went. While we were there, I saw a group of people standing around like they were waiting for something, and I heard one of them say "Phineas Gage"... (1/3)

@futurebird in "It's a Wonderful Life" the romance is settled early on, and the protagonist spends most of the movie resenting the hell out of his small hometown and wanting to leave it.

@futurebird Someone in my family attempted to "replace" an heirloom I had DELIBERATELY CHOSEN to give to a new family member. It made me FURIOUS.

@futurebird @brad I'd think the ideal method would be an app that speaks a word, and you try to enter the correct IPA characters; if you fail, it shows you the correct ones. Surely that's out there somewhere.

@futurebird My favorite recipe instructions (Elizabethan): 1. If any of them rise, clap them down with some clean thing. 2. Stir it till it run round like unto a whirley-pit.

@futurebird @MCDuncanLab @llewelly The book "Bread and Jam for Frances" was aspirational in my making-lunch-for-my-kids years.
