@Wolf480pl @RandomDamage A lot of it is them just being weak communicators and so using phrases like "people want," instead of "I want," because they're concerned that their personal wants will be dismissed. Now it may be they're weak communicators and are actually referencing good sources on UX studies but, usually not.Sometimes they're right, it is bad... but maybe not for your use case, and they forgot to consider that.

@Wolf480pl @RandomDamage I've found it pays to search for the usernames of people who send me requests to see if they're like, informed. Usually they aren't but sometimes I get a message from someone who happens to be an expert in the field and it sends me down a wonderfully educational rabbithole.

Hey what's the general term for like, not just programming languages but markup languages like, all the, uh... languages-meant-to-be-interpreted-computationally?

@lidar The sentence would be, "It's assumed the reader is unfamiliar with all software and programming and serialization languages used, so concepts will be explained the first time they are introduced," does that seem to make sense to you? (It looks fine to me. Languages actually in play are TOML, Markdown, HTML, CSS, and Go Templates)

@Wolf480pl @RandomDamage That's what I do! "I'm unfamiliar with these concepts, do you have further reading you can recommend so I can consider this further?"It puts some burden on them ("link plz") but tries to remove as much as possible - I'll read this and use it to give consideration to your idea, rather than asking you to explain."

@ceejbot I remember the look of death I got when, after being told the CEO of a company's only real job was to be "the visionary," asking, "...Do you need one of those? It seems like you have a clear notion of what work you should do for steady growth for the next 8 to a dozen quarters."The CEO started working with the sales teams a few weeks later.

@wizard Assuming Fediverse means mostly Mastodon, my guess is closer to livejournal culture than bbs culture - a little bit... softer/younger?I don't think the platform will age with its current users - I think they'll migrate toward different normie platforms as they age, while (after its peak) increasingly niche artsy youngsters and early middle-agers will join Mastodon.

@aral He didn't ask you for a demonstration, he shared opinion, which I'm going to do now too: You're moving from being an observer and commentator to organizer without seemingly stopping to consider the difference in skills and personalities these fields take. In my experience as a founding member of Sedazad, which developed anti-surveillance for Iran and North Africa, I feel entitled and obligated to warn you that you are making yourself an easy ally for "the bullshit," you hate.

@clacke You could try reaching out and asking if they'd like to join the Fediverse, or would mind if you set up a crossposting bot for yourself?I know it's not the same, but wanted to hype the platform-native microfiction writers.
