       Women have the absolute right to control and decide what is best for their own body.Such a fundamental human truth trumps any political movement or legal decision. It's way bigger than that, and far beyond whatever authority the supreme court is said to have.        So, the US just committed $280,000,000,000 to improving American semiconductor fabrication. I have some issues with how it was done, but I do think the goal makes sense. Now... If the governments of the world would commit even as little as 1% of that to supporting "public", open source software development, the world would change practically overnight, in a way that would benefit everyone, everywhere.  #FOSS

       Don't get me wrong though, I agree that things like climate, healthcare and affordable housing should be prioritized over technology. (I also would rather the government make investments than give corporate handouts.)But when it comes to technology, computer hardware is useless without software, and as a society we've neglected to invest in the open source ecosystem that drives just about everything.

       @BrentToderian To me the killer feature of Mastodon over all the rest is the one that people don't really talk much about, despite it being at the heart of the whole thing: open source.I like that on Mastodon, the community of users have agency over just about everything. Whether that means managing your own instance, pitching ideas on https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues, or even jumping in and hacking on code for those who can.
