@mattof This is something I should definitely try on my self hosted setup 😀, I'd definitely benefit from a file dropper/snippet service and textmode browser compatibility is an huge bonus.

Since these days I'm spending most of my day out of the house I'm planning to deploy a remote #FreeBSD workstation for myself. A system with all my development stuff installed which I can reach using any of my computers or my iPad in order to do some web development on the go.Any suggestion for a good (and BSD friendly) European cloud provider which I can use for this? Usually I use Contabo but I'd like to see which other options can I use 😃

@stefano Thank you very much! As soon as I get home I'll look at the providers you suggested.I'd love to get a VM with OpenBSD Amaterdam supporting them too but at the moment I might work on FreeBSD specific stuff so I think I'll stay with a commercial provider.

@stefano Looking forward to your article. This year, at my my first #EuroBSDCon, I learned more in two relaxed days of conference than I could have done in 100 hours on the average IT training courses. Not only because of talks but even in all the stimulating conversations I had and by observing expert #Unix people working.

@futurebird As a Pokémon fan I feel this very much. In most cases I'd rather commission fan arts (and now even a couple pieces of home made merchandaise) than gorge on cards or get most of the unofficial merch (which in 99% of cases is pretty boring).

@futurebird As a temporary stopgap have you considered to use extensions such as Unhook. They allow you to remove stuff you may find distracting or annoying. For example I used it to disable video suggestions since many of them tried to attract views appealing to fear with titles such as "This generation is DOOMED".

One of the things we lost when most moved to communities hosted on few big tech sites were kid friendly Internet communities. Some of my first steps on the web were con Animal Crossing and Pokèmon communities where I learned the netiquette (the young adults who moderated the forums had the patience of saints 😅) and made friendships who last to this day. Those communities were safe (human moderators intervened in case of issues and answered parents inquiries), cozy (no algorithms continuously showing you bad news or arguments to generate engagement) and lighthearted. On top of that most had their own Internet domain so parents could blacklist/whitelist stuff with simple router based rules without resorting to more invasive parental control apps, something which is harder to do when kid gets Discord, X or Instagram because “all my friends have it”/“I need it for school!”.

@michael_w_busch @futurebird Indeed, I saw many anthropomorphize ChatGPT but what do you thing firms gains from such user behavior?

@futurebird @Phosphenes @bovaz @aurochs No ads and no bloated JavaScript trackers in order to collect data for more ads (I'm thinking about Reddit which lately started to lag on my M1 MBA).
