@Wolf480pl Ah, perhaps this post in isolation was unclear in that regard.Since all of my posts with "intellectual property" in the subject line are griping and ranting about the effects of intellectual property as an idea, I'd hoped it might've been more clear that I'm not calling any specific entity "intellectual property" but am instead talking about the concept itself. In this case, while the post was specifically about patents, my gripes more generally apply to everything that gets called "intellectual property", and so I decided to use the term in the subject line as a content warning, in case any of my followers aren't in the mood to hear me rant on that subject.I'm not defending the legitimacy of intellectual property at all - quite the opposite. I just use the term as a subject line because it's the central focus that I'm talking about. Using a different word to avoid saying "intellectual property" would be silly, because intellectual property is the specific concept that the post concerns.

oh christ, I hadn't remotely realized how much dumb shit e98e was getting from commenters. as if the Github staff issues weren't bad enough.@iliana's blog posts about it are really good, and it's quite a shame it didn't last longer. I'd been planning on working on a PR today, actually.rest in peeeeeeeeeace.

perhaps it's just as well that I didn't get a chance to make a PR though, because my contribution probably would have been a program that sends a UDP packet containing e506e (the maximum safe length of a UDP payload) to every address in the ipv4 space.

My dear mother seems not to have really got the message when I said "I am not working for a big tech company". Her reaction appears to be something along the lines of "that's nice, dear, but you need to make money and support yourself, and that comes before your ideology or whatever".Listen:No it fucking doesn't.I don't want to avoid big tech companies because it's fun, or convenient, or wins me points with some cult, or whatever she thinks. I avoid them because I think they're an existential threat to civilization, and I do not want to assist them in what they are doing. That's it. I'm just not willing to conscript myself in the name of money to an entity that I would rather die fighting. There has to be a better way.

I'm not going to work for a big corporation or insidious government agency in any capacity. I'm just not going to fucking do it. If we ever want anything to get better in this world, people like me have to stop actively working to make it worse. At this stage, I feel like going off to work some job at Amazon or Google or Microsoft or Bloatass Bank or whatever the fuck, no matter what the job actually is, would be an act of surrender to late capitalism, and I haven't even started fighting yet.

And yes, even if the job were like "tech ethicist" or "ethics moderator" or whatever the fuck. There's no changing a capitalist death machine from the inside, no matter how much anyone says you can.

I still often use the men's restroom when I'm in my default low-effort state of dress (tshirt, jeans, no makeup) because I'm still terrified of someone in the women's restroom labeling me a sexual predator and calling the police. Meanwhile, in the men's restroom, my primary risk is being assaulted myself, and with my relatively high poise and strength, I feel like I could escape from that kind of situation much more reliably than I could defuse the other worst-case. I might be wrong about that, but I don't really know.

No matter the case, I really hate having to make that call every time I use a bathroom. Cis-centered society is shit.

every time I tell certain people in my life about the latest thing I'm working on, the *first* thing they ask me is "are you going to sell it?"to which the answer is always: NO- marketing is hard and stupid- it's not useful or novel enough to possibly be worth selling as an entrepreneur- that would mean trying to do a Startup, which is Right Out- what gave you the impression that I was doing this for money anyway

the most important part of this is that we desperately need less for-profit tech in the world right now. you're literally asking me "hey, it looks like you're trying to do something nice, have you considered being part of the problem you're trying to help solve instead?"

I was recently asked this about fucking Teamech.DUDE. literally the entire point of Teamech is that it helps do a thing that is usually poisoned by commercialism (IoT) but has nothing to do with money at all.

also, Teamech is a personal shakedown project in a language I'm new to (Rust) and is therefore something that no one in their right mind would use for serious purposes.
