It is a good job that social media didn't exist then and that I wasn't in charge of any military PR, otherwise the terrorists would have seen my country as a soft target.

@rifter I would say that's probably a good thing then (at least for the moment). Here in the UK there has been an emerging scandal of gender reassignment treatment and puberty blockers doing irreversible harm to large cohort of children who attended the Tavistock GIDS clinic. It's a complicated case, but it appears far more harm than good was done.The level of conclusive research in the field is scant and that's had some tragic consequences which I think you would do well to avoid in US.

@pieist @rifter Yeah, a lot of these kids apparently had complex mental health problems and trauma. That needs to at least be properly understood before changing a childs body (and the rest of their adult personal life) forever. There is obviously a lot of current cultural politics surrounding the issue but I think the bottom line should be that adults take proper responsibility for children who don't have our benefit of hindsight.
