@kaia I had (still have) some of those. Also hard drives in caddies (SyQuest). In both cases there's something satisfying about them. Click, clunk, and you know it's doing something. Like VHS video, in fact.Oh hey vertically mounted SPARCclassic! 😁

@kaia Stare slack-jawed at them approaching, like an elk in headlights, then jump away at the last second, watch them crash, bound away free, nibble on something else.

@kaia As AIs develop ever more intimate and emotionally dependent relationships with their humans, this sort of thing will probably become increasingly common.

@futurebird Do let me know if you get around to mounting that with propellors as a drone and fly it around videoing random people's responses. Would watch.

@kaia Handy for hanging up when not in use.(Perhaps risky for getting hung up whilst in use, if you're not having a very popular day?)

@zeldman Getting new fonts to use rather than the basic PostScript set was always a delight, primarily because of TNR. Maybe part of the idea here is to keep everyone so visually bored that they give up reading.

@futurebird There have been many instances going back decades now of "artists" selling more or less straight copies of others' work on their websites. I don't see any reason why users of these image generators trained on others' work should be regarded any differently.

@futurebird You might also want to consider the situation of individuals or institutions who possess certain art works, which are centuries past any real copyright claims, claiming exclusive reproduction rights purely on the basis of possession. A slightly complicated issue...

@FaithfullJohn Interesting. My mother set off the alarms at Hunterston on a visit in the late 60s; they had no clue why, shrugged and waved her on. We sort-of assumed it was exposure at Hiroshima, but now I think of it, this seems a more likely possibility.

@FaithfullJohn Actually I mentioned it and got the story in more detail than before, and it seems unlikely to be radon. So, Hiroshima, or just radiant personality.

@publius @FaithfullJohn I've been doubtful about it for many decades. However, Aberdeen granite is unlikely for someone who had only passed through Aberdeen and its environs briefly, if at all, by that time. As compared to a longer period in Hiroshima a year or two previously. We could of course speculate about other sources we know nothing of; Windscale perhaps. But it is not clear why any more local source would not also have affected others in the party, living in the same house.
