@futurebird @grammargirl agreed. Drugs, gambling, extremist political views, MLM.Having your computer validate or not entirely dismiss basically anything you say to it is emotionally gratifying which in turn makes all the good brain juices flow.

@futurebird @grammargirl not trying to spam you, but I’ve introduced family and other non-tech people to chat GPT after them asking questions about AI.I find it’s helpful to frame it as what it is. First an LLM or AI in this case is a new way for you to interact with a computer. Like a touch screen or keyboard. Think of its knowledge as a search engine you can ask question to in natural spoken language.Just like a search engine it will be biased in its responses.

@BrodieOnLinux canonical, ibm, radhat and heck even suse to an extent exist and haven’t made Linux proprietary.Linux was born largely because sco.There isn’t anymore risk of Linux becoming proprietary because some userland tools are mit than there is for distros including google chrome, or v8.I mean I agree emotionally with what you’re saying and I just fucking hate it. It’s stupid, vain and overall makes me dislike canonical even more.

@pluralistic really starting to feel like all gas no brakes straight into a huge wall. It’s felt that way before. Dot com as you said, other hilarious tech events, even the housing collapse and then ‘rona. Current state coupled with AI pressing the gas and generalized civil unrest, it feels different this time.

@tomjennings at this point I only use web browsers in private mode and have a new session each time I open the browser. Use proxies, vpn, content blocking.Still it’s unavoidable and not enough.What is missing here is a bidirectional trust between the user and the entity requesting yet more personal identifiable information.At this point I don’t believe this trust can ever be established. The internet economy is based on user info and data.

@ricci its crazy that a pack of kids are trying to get some land to sustainably farm. Crazy that there’s circumstances to cause that to happen, but also extremely cool they’re trying to solve their problems.Very sad that it’s actual children having to do this. The world is a very harsh place for most humans.
