       @shoq As bad as Trump is, 8 years of Reagan policies were (and still are) far more damaging to our society.  The War on Drugs, Iran Contra, HUD scandals, ignoring AIDS for years,and countless other Reagan disasters are still affecting our society.

       @karlauerbach The poisonous fiction of “shareholder value” was the brainchild of the greediest, most venal, amoral and despicable humans to ever fog mirrors. When combined with the quasi-legal concept of “fiduciary duty” it elevated the desire for profit to a sacred obligation that executives must pursue at the expense of customers, employees, suppliers, the environment, etc.Fuck capitalists and clueless rubes they rode in on.

       @karlauerbach The concept of "fiduciary duty" has its own fraught history. English common law attempted to resolve the Agent-Principal conflict and fiduciary duty was the tool that resulted. History has shown that concept of a fiduciary only highlighted the problem without resolving it. In actual practice, it is too often invoked as a pretext to justify truly reprehensible corporate behavior.

       @clive @RustyBertrand Are you concerned that low-income people are likely more vulnerable to having such an expensive asset stolen from them? Also, e-bikes can be a fire hazard if not charged properly, or connected to substandard electrical outlets.Seems like the taxpayer might have grounds to wonder if conventional bicycles might be a more cost effective use of subsidies….

       @clive Ameristan is reality, not fiction.In the very near future, whats left of the population in these depopulated areas will be ruled by tribal warlords, e.g., local sheriffs, powerful land owners, etc. The people in these areas will be so deranged that local government services will cease to exist. The only commerce will be barter. Basic survival needs will come from outside charity. Its happening now.
