I hadn't yet seen any actual gameplay from Warcraft 3 Reforged (just static pics or early bullshots).And... the new graphics kind of suck? I'm surprised.#warcraft #games

I mean, Reforged obviously looks better overall than original War3. It would be hard to look worse - the game came out in the lowest point in the history of videogame graphics (early, bad 3D).But they made some stylistic changes that were really bad. Like changing the 2d icons that were good into super-busy ones. Or making stuff a lot less cartoony, which was the one thing it had going for it. Now it is a mix of uncanny valley and generic.

Realistic is not an upgrade in this case.Warcraft has oversized shoulderpads and way too many spikes; realism just means it looks sillier than a blockier, cartoonish style.Again: it's still better, but they went too far and I'm mildly disappointed. Well, not like I was ever going to buy it.

After an early Civilization spree, now I'm going ham on RTS games.Reinstalled Warcraft 3 and BFME2 (on Linux, no less), plus my favorites Northgard, OTC and Rise of Nations. Installed some mods for Empire at War, though didn't even test them all yet.

I really miss playing boardgames with my friends.Obviously because _meeting_ my friends is what I miss. But our meetings were usually gaming nights, so I miss that.

@Draconicrose You know how that goes, an entry-level position as human requires 25 years of depression before you are 21.

@Draconicrose But really, mental illness is incredibly difficult to diagnose, and symptoms vary a lot from person to person. Like, for some people depression makes them sleep too much, for others it causes severe insomnia. So if you (or anyone) has some symptoms, it is ok to look for help even if it doesn't fit in a neat box.(I hope I'm not intruding with unsolicited advice)

Ah, this supposedly "strategy" game is actually "narrative driven".Real nice of the developers to be upfront about such huge flaws.

@Canageek It's kind of a pity that the mechanics are so totally convoluted.Otherwise, it might fall into "so bad it's actually funny" territory.

@stolas I keep thinking about how England had a king with the moniker "Lackland", who also signed away most of his powers.I mean, there is a precedent, right?

@stolas Yeah, they are fun to play with/make memes in part because it is so silly. But it turns out that simplistic game mechanics aren't deep insights about moral philosophy.Heck, alignment is bad and shallow even as a game mechanic, the game would be better without it.

@stolas Chaotic Neutral: are you dedicated to the idea of freedom and anarchy, dedicated to the idea of the formless chaos, or just batshit crazy? Who know, who cares?Lawful good paladins: Totally Not Evil. We can magically detect evil, so we couldn't possibly be evil. All the "righteous" smiting is good. All the authoritarian bs is good.

@stolas Now I really want to play some Planescape, but with alignment being the equivalent of Astrology for planars."Haha, I pranked that guy, I'm such a Chaotic Neutral."
