@jburnmurdoch @t0nyyates I think that one model we are likely to see is institutional servers, as the German gov't has already set up. Running a Mastodon instance on corporate iron, along with the webserver and SMTP. The FT might well run one for all its journalists.

@zleap @lennardvanotterloo @jburnmurdoch @t0nyyates I don't necessarily agree. I think big tech will pick up the mastodon ball and run with it. It's quite possible that Dorsey's Bluesky project will do so.

@zleap @lennardvanotterloo @jburnmurdoch @t0nyyates How do Dorsey's billionaire chums get richer from that? Open protocols should be curated by the IETF - and documented in rfc's

@killyourfm @est I'm afraid that you've misunderstood ActivityPub. The more successful Mastodon becomes, the more likely it is that big tech chooses to be compatible with it. Corporations choosing to operate their own instances will want stronger support than Eugen can provide. MS will add ActivityPub support to Exchange Server. :mastodon: admins will be left arguing over whether to federate with them, and I predict that most will.

@EU_Commission @harphat This is great. But it would be really, really great if you could get train operators to co-ordinate their services to make cross-border travel a mundane everyday convenience rather than an epic adventure. @jon
