Always hate how you can get any old shit voted to the top of r/ethereum by jamming "Vitalik" in the title somewhere but I decided to use this power for good

At one of those events where the town invites people from Tokyo to come and play with my #goats then tries to get them to fill in the form so we get their municipal taxes instead of the place where they actually live

@vbuterin OK, here goes. Like everything in politics it starts with a gerrymander.Since WW2 the population has been migrating from the countryside to the cities. But the constitutuency boundaries don't get updated to match, so a rural vote is worth way more than an urban vote. (I expect the Americans did this on purpose to keep the Communists out.)

@taoeffect The way to assess 1 would be to read the judgement (see if the accusation is harassing parents or something else), if it is what's the evidence cited. And for 3, there should be something he's claiming was supressed and a judgement from the court from where his lawyers asked to present something and the court said no and gave a reason.Nobody who hasn't read those can tell you whether the complaints are justifed or not

@taoeffect It's pretty common for court cases to be misrepresented in the press, it's generally better to go straight to the actual judgement. American judges are really good, clear writers. The procedural stuff in between can be obscure and legalistic but the judgement is usually clear.

@taoeffectThis seems to be the verdict where they find that he's not cooperating with discovery and award the plaintiffs everything they claimed by default. https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/21074090-pozner-judgmentIIUC if you fail to follow the court orders and lose a case by default the other side doesn't actually have to prove anything, the logic being that you're disobeying the court orders that would allow them to prove it. The Jones lawyer doc seems to agree that he refused to follow the court orders?

@taoeffect Maybe this one, or maybe there are lots of similar cases where he's getting sued, the judge says, "produce x, y and z", and he... doesn't.https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/21074211-alex-jones-default-judgment-orders-texasI think what's true is that in this situation the legal system can't prove anything beyond the fact that the defendant is a total fucking dumbass. You can truly say "they never proved that he did X", because the plaintiffs didn't have to prove X, beyond showing that the defendant is telling the court to go fuck itself

@taoeffect I'm going by the doc you linked from his lawyer, which seems to be saying:* Plaintiffs ask for X* Jones says this is overbroad and files various motions to persuade the court that he shouldn't have to provide it* Jones loses the motions* Jones decides not to give them X despite losing the motionsAs I read it their argument is that the court is then unfair in just awarding a default judgement, when it could have just told the jury "he didn't comply, make of that what you will"

@taoeffect This was happening in PoW too, and also happens in bitcoin. Going back to PoW wouldn't fix it, miners choose what to put in their blocks and they sometimes outsource the job to some company, in bitcoin it's a mining pool

@taoeffect It wasn't as bad. What got worse was that because PoW defacto centralized around a few pools, they could have a trust relationship with the MEV-optimizing companies where the optimizers would send bundles of txes and the pool would build a block. In PoS there are many small stakers so the optimizers can't trust that the staker won't just copy the bundle and not pay for it, so instead they make them sign the block blind. There are some fixes getting built that will solve this.
