@stevelord @adam I dove into web3 a couple weeks ago, mostly to claim an .eth name and then set it up since I really liked the identity possibilities.The one major take way I had from it was IPFS is really interesting and I wish there was more hype around it.

@stevelord While wading through the comments on "My first impressions of web3" post on HN yesterday, I came across a comment about EtherFreakers contract source code git commit hash[1]. That seems a good utilitarian use case for blockchain. I don't know if it was backed by IPFS though. @joel I started FFII years ago, and ventured too far South where the enemies higher levels. Tried multiple times to make it back North, but always died and had to retry. I didn't want to completely start over, so now it's basically Sisyphus: The Game in my mind.I got Parasite Eve when it came in '98 since I wanted another "Resident Evil". Think I made it past the firs disc, but that was it. I'll never finish it since I lost disc 3 sometime in the last 20 years.

It rarely happens, but it's awesome when an encrypted mail shows up.Means I get to fire up mutt on my server, and fully leverage my Yubikey gpg-agent setup that I've spent way more time that I'd like to admit getting right.

@joel This is what I really like about Fastmail as a provider.All it's services are available over standard protocols like CalDAV, IMAP (well JMAP, but it's an actual RFC standard), CardDAV, and WebDAV.As much as Apple is a walled garden, all their native apps (Contacts, Mail, Calendar, Finder) can use these standards natively too.It's nice to have all these working on an iPhone, terminal, and website with almost no friction.

@joel I really like the idea behind Protonmail, but it seems more security theatre than functionality.It's still email, and at the end of the day 90% of the mail you send is probably ending up in plaintext on a Google or MS service anyway.At least with IMAP/SMTP standards and a proper MUA you can do proper encrypted/signed mail and not have to worry about the service itself supporting it.

@joel awesome job and congrats. I would probably chalk up the missed dupe to just human behavior.We skim and skip over things all the time, especially front matter.I visit the AWS web console dozes of times a day, but I never actually pay attention to it, just go straight to the services search dialog. They could add a picture of Jeff Bezos dressed as a clown and I probably wouldn't notice for a couple of weeks.

Do I really need to re-do my blog theme again...?This console-theme from Hugo is so nice though, and imaging making my shell prompt with dirs as the blog posts just seems to appealing.Initial test with replacing the style sheet worked well, but then I'd have to spend who knows how long tweaking it so it's just right.

@metalune Replaced most of the Google with Fastmail (imap, caldav, cardav). I guess I still use Youtube - but most of that is through RSS feeds.I still use Google Photos and Drive regularly, but am looking for more self-hosted options after they started bringing the hammer down on storage.
