@PNS All the stores around here have stopped staffing their regular checkouts and now have one fat blue hair "managing" the self checkouts and not paying attention when the clanker freaks out and I need the employee to override whatever dumbassery the machine thinks needs.

The same way that students are taught to calculate what their theoretical yield should be in chemistry, CS students should be taught te calculato the theoretical number of cycles any particular operation needs to perform, and then treat getting close to that as seriously as chemists do.Sometimes your performance will be low because of all the incidental crap you have to take care of. But for a lot of things we do on computers there just isn't any excuse.

By the way, any news story that talks about how many magazines or bullets the guy had on him is an enemy of the second amendment. @Svantovit No fuck that. You have a right to have a gun on you to defend yourself from lunatics. Problem is he was a looney. Don't join the mob. If you get approached by cops, don't resist arrest, declare that you have a gun, move slowly, follow instructions.That guy never stopped fighting and it got him killed.
