@Twelve I've got an x200 tablet version and I like it a lot. I'm rarely ever using it with the pen, so I would probably be also OK with a regular x200. Kids like the drawing on the screen though and my desk setup utilizes the screen rotation thing.Performance is OK with 8GB RAM and a fast SSD, but I usually offload heavy work (mostly compiling embedded Linux stuff) to a server.

@ndegruchy I'm using OsmAnd as offline map viewer and occasional routing tool and it's great! When I absolutely want traffic based routing I use the MagicEarth App instead. But that rarely happens.https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Magic_Earth

I might be looking for freelance work in #embedded software development starting immediately (remote, of course).Still in discussion with my employer (regular form of employment, the freelance work is a side track with only occasional projects) about working from home due to #COVID19 , but if they remain stubborn I might be on unpaid leave starting Monday and I can't really afford that right now.#job #pleaseboost

We have a meeting with up to 20 people coming up tomorrow. We collectivly own and manage the building we live in and need to coordinate some things. The meeting will be remote of course, with everyone sitting in their own apartments. I'm looking for suggestions which free software solutions to use.We don't really need #videochat, voice + #screensharing or a #pad with basic formating support (bold, italic, lists, maybe tables) would be enough.#fossmendations #remote

We have a #nextcloud instance with #talk, #collabora office and the "new" editor, that allows collaborative editing of markdown documents available.Talk has been unreliable even in small meetings. Collabora works OK, but lags a little too much even in those mini meetings. I haven't really tested the editor yet, but had some issues with it locking up after a few minutes of single-user usage (reload page fixed it).Guess it would not work well for such a large meeting...

We have a (segmented) LAN setup in the house sharing one VDSL connection to the outer world, so connection speeds shouldn't be a problem if it's a #peer2peer solution or hosted locally.I still have an old laptop (2core, ~2,5GHz, 4GB RAM) I could set up as a local server.

Regarding the setup-procedure: something that has a sane-defaults #docker(-compose) or #nixOS installation method available would be great.

@Gina also have to reinstall https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/surfingkeys_ff/ on my new setup. Pressing f and then having every link annotated with a key(-sequence) is really great. No need to reach for the mouse just for following a link.

@codesections it's such a great podcast!By now I've listened, watched and read a lot (about) rust but have barely used it. Just a few examples from the book and a small and small CLI tool for accessing a http api. The newrustacean podcast has paved the way to dive into the language listen-/read-only and follow it closely, even though I lack the time to sit down at the desk and actually use it.Hope I'll have time or find a good excuse for using it, preferably for an embedded project, soon!

@ataraxia937 most times I feel the urge to write or respond to something on mastodon I run into the 500 character limit, so I guess I'm more of a blogger than micro-blogger...

@Matter @sphyphes oh OK. That was my impression from what flew by my timeline. They are "only" about free firmware then?

@nitox still haven't gotten around to trying this yet, but if it's about ease of use for the editor(s) of the site you might want to try WordPress with a plugin like WP2Static https://wordpress.org/plugins/static-html-output-plugin/Put the WordPress instance itself on a private server or password-protect it via htaccess and publish the result as a static site.

After more than a year since the last post on my #blog I finally revived it and added new content last night. It's part of a small series I've got planned about getting my printer and scanner to work with #nixos.https://blog.dwagenk.com/nix/2020/04/nix-printing/#15WeeksToBlog

BTW I'm not going to join @kev's #100DaysToOffload / #100DaysToBlog challenge like everybody else on this instance seems to do.Giving myself even more incentives to spent time at the computer daily and adding pressure to get something publishable done every single day wouldn't be good for me and definitely not feel offloading. Maybe my alternative approach #15WeeksToBlog will catch on as well. Expect more blogposts by me about once per week for the forseeable future!

@codesections I read a couple of twitter feeds through RSS via https://nitter.net e.g. https://nitter.net/bitshiftmaskWorks without signup, phone no. etc. No push notifications, but I wouldn't want them anyhow.

Just ordered a #PinebookPro.Have been moving quite a lot of resource hungry tasks (e.g. compiling) to a server recently, so I guess the specs are good enough for it to become my everyday laptop. Media playback performance and battery life will certainly be better than with the old thinkpad I'm using now.I'm very excited.

@kev yes, take the time to learn it from the start. The available GUIs are either so close to the #CLI, giving barely any advantage, of hide to much of the mental model of how git works. Only GUI I liked (did my first git steps with it) is TortoiseGit (windows only). Also make sure you have a relatively recent tutorial, there has been some work in the recent past for improving the CLI (not using git checkout --flagXYZ for many different actions, but introducing action-specific subcommands)

@jocor I'm on i3wm right now. I really like the keyboard-driven approach moat of the time, but would rather have it integrated in a full desktop environment. GNOME with pop!shell is supposed to be something like that and I'll try it out soon.I've used XFCE for a long time before and liked it as well.
