to me, the saddest part about some anti stuff is that it can come from a genuine fear of the abuse that happens in the world. hear me out here.powerlessness in the face of despair can go a few different ways. some people throw their hands in the air and go, "idk man, this is a big issue, i'm one person." others dedicate their lives to material action, taking a genuine action in fighting for change.we all want to be that second person, but that path in life can be soul-crushingly fruitless. high risk, high reward - the fear is nothing changes, or you make things worse, yet you spent your entire life on it anyways. a lot of people don't want to die with that as their legacy.but you know what can feel better than losing a real battle? winning a fake one you think is real. you're convinced the stakes are high, but all you have to do is get into social media arguments. no protesting, no leaving your house, not even face to face contact with people you disagree with. you feel as though you're genuinely fighting against abuse by crusading against the art of some 17 year old anime boys kissing. the instant gratification is an opiate that numbs the helpnessless deep inside you, but at the expense of others. it's the corpse of your drive for change. it's been swallowed by a sense of powerlessness, but you still think it's alive.as time goes by, increasingly toxic tendencies cloak themselves in the flesh of your good intentions. you can't tell it ever died in the first place, though. it feels like it never left.
