@galdor I read much of this & found myself occasionally nodding in agreement, & appalled at the disgusting unacceptable treatment he's been subjected to. But I also had a feeling that something was off, which slowly grew as I kept reading. Then I got to this "two kinds of evil" quote and now I'm really concerned. This vague statement looks as if he's trying to call Ukraine evil too. After following the war closely since it started, that does not sit with me I'll tell you that much.

After years of "flat" design and autohiding controls and apple laptops with notched screens, android phones where the home/back buttons are onscreen transparent overlays atop actual GUI buttons & elements, and other regressive trends that ruin usability and accessibility, and 11+ years of GTK making desktop linux increasingly unbearably fucking awful to use, I'm convinced now that anyone who identifies as a "designer" is the very least qualified to design anything at all usable or worthwhile

@ParadeGrotesque I'm personally way more concerned about the GNOME developer community than about Microsoft. They've been doing much more harm for much longer.

@coolboymew it should be written "wot" instead of "wut" to be more authentically british

       I made another song with GarageBand '09 on my dad's 14 year old mac mini. This one is called "magic2v1". #mac #apple #retro #garageband #original #song #music #creative #creativity #fun #excitement #slapbass #bass

I think game devs commissioning music or working with musicians should think first and foremost "how can I enable the musician to do their best work?"Too often it seems like what they actually do is approach like "I want you to recreate this dream that's in my head, in this style that's in my head. Here's a vague description & some youtube links of random songs" & try to micromanage what they make, rather than relying on their talent and expertise for design & composition#gamedev #music

My best friend is an amazing talented composer and she's done several commissions, all of them seem to go something like this. I've only done one commission myself, but it also went like this too.So I think it's definitely something that gamedevs need to know - trust your musician, in the same way you might trust your programmers - you probably don't micromanage their coding or programming etc

Last night I happened to be in the living room while an artist was on TV talking about a commission he did, with a guy who I think was a dancer or some sort of performance athlete of the sort, doing a painting of him.The artist poke about how the dancer guy approached him like "what do I need to do, for you to do your best work?" and I thought that was so awesome and the best mindset for anyone approaching a creative artist of any discipline

@thomholwerda @frumble I quickly understood that they hate us right back in early 2011 when they pulled the carpet out from under all the users of Gnome 2,and then I fully understood exactly how much they hate us over the course of the following couple years where I had to completely rewrite from scratch my custom GTK theme many times, hours of my time wasted in the most painful possible way, because they were constantly breaking themes.I always knew something like Libadwaita was coming.

@dusthillperson also not to mention the snarky jerk comments from gnome devs on gitlab pages that pop up all over internet searches about GTK usability issues or mal-features

@frumble @thomholwerda I agree so much with skeevy420's and cakeisamadeupdrug's comments on usability. That especially hits home for me.Maintaining my own custom GTK theme for years, even enduring the gnome people's best attempts to make me give up by breaking the CSS over and over and over every point release, isn't something I did for fun.I did it because I have ASD and severe sensory issues. Having my choice of colours is a NEED for me

@matzipan Ahh, then I'll forward my feedback.#linux #accessibility@sonny Hi, I have sensory issues and having a dark mode with user interface controls tinted dark red makes much much more comfortable for me to use my computer.Currently, I have had to maintain my own GTK theme to make this possible, hours of very painful work over the years just to have a tolerable user experience for me.I think having the ability to change the UI colours is an essential accessibility feature.
