@ademalsasa great little summary, good work. Remember also @mepy_solvespace which is useful for 3d solid modeling. That Ubuntu wiki page of engineering software is very old and out of date on a few things. I tried to get edit rights but no luck yet.

@tblock @humanetech Appart from convenience what's the motivation behind blocking ads? Anything doing any kind of tracking should of course be blocked. But just plain ads? What revenue model is the alternative (under capitalism)?

@Vivernu @thor I hope I'm not the only person who knows this ... but oppression is usually about #classwar and power. 'Racism' is usually just a convenient tool of the powerful. #Oppression exists in all societies so it's no surprise that it also exists between cultures ('race' is an unscientific term).

@Vivernu I think it's actually important. Explaining why the idea of different humans races is nonsense demolishes an important pillar of racist theory. Then the discussion can move to comparing cultures, which is a more constructive discussion. @thor

@Vivernu I'm not implying that truth doesn't matter. I'm saying it is true that 'race' is a misrepresentation of the biological reality. That is true *and* it supports an anti-racism agenda. Do you think there is a large enough genetic difference between population clusters to apply a term like 'race'. The difference would have to be significantly more than the in-cluster variation. @thor

@Vivernu well, that was a vaguely interesting synopsis from Wikipedia. I don't think I'll wade into the disagreements outlined. I would however still assert that anyone claiming that some superficial notion of race is somehow a proxy for behaviour/ability is almost certainly wrong. But I'm pretty sure we agree there. Thanks for pointing me to that discussion about the science. I'm provoked by a recent episode of #ScienceFriday where they interview an indiginous scientist about a number of interesting subjects.
