@killyourfm I do #opensource #gamedev. I've even been working on an open source game achievement system.

@killyourfm It is called #Gamerzilla (because it was originally a plugin for Hubzilla). I don't have a permanent server at the moment but here is my .net version running.http://96.230.82.19/https://identicalsoftware.com/gamerzilla/

@killyourfm I've been focusing on open source game preservation. It's easier than preserving closed source games but even then building games can be difficult or even impossible.

@killyourfm @sirmikester Kickstarter without a very demo is not going to work. However paying people is the easiest way to make your game. You just probably can't afford to do it.

@killyourfm Does your game idea have a lot of elements to it? Like there is farming, combat, puzzles, etc. If so probably the best way to start is to make smaller games with only part of your vision of the game. Make those fun and release them. That can build fan base which might allow you to find collaborators. Another option is build a boardgame. Paper prototypes to prove a game is fun is a good idea and can be demoed to people. As others said I wouldn't worry about people stealing your idea.

@killyourfm If you do decide to try to implement it, I've used godot and recommend it but if you lack programming experience it can be rough. There are various game creators that specialize in generes. They may be easier for non programmers but they limit what you can easily do and you still need to learn some programming logic for the scripting in the system.

@killyourfm I see this in the RPG space. I've even done it. My recent Dulsi's Dragonlance Addendum is on DMs Guild rather than being put up for free on my website.

@killyourfm Arcade style games can be nice that way. I've been playing around with a Gauntlet clone.

@killyourfm Fight or Perish. New Breed Software created it. He produces some amazing prototypes but tends not to complete them. (My son reminded me I've done the same.) He started Super Tux. He has Bobobot as well, a Megaman like game. I've put my updates on gitlab. #FightOrPerish https://gitlab.com/dulsi/fop

There are lots of them. For books anything from Peter David. You should occasionally look at humble bundle. They do Star Trek comic bundles sometimes.
