That’s right: this small girl’s tears hold the power to bring forth the apocalypse—and the only way to stop it is for them to help find her mother so she can make it safely back home.

Meg’s Monster is a short, story-driven JRPG with a big twist. Players control Roy, who begins the game with 99,999 HP and is virtually untouchable—but the real concern is keeping Meg safe, because if she starts crying, it’s game over for everyone. Players will have to master the unique mechanics and mini-games baked into each battle, all while protecting Meg and using her favorite toys to keep her pacified.

That’s right folks! A bona-fide JRPG with art by the Danish pixel art maestro Tomas Præstholm! This thing is just incredibly cute, and I’ve personally been looking forward to it ever since Tomas showed me some preliminary sprite work back during the time of the plague.

You play as the big cuddly monster: Roy, who must keep his travel companion Meg safe at all costs, which is easier said than done in an otherwise traditional JRPG combat system. As you make your way through the game you will get more companions, get to know Roy and Meg better, and probably have a good cry.Go buy it now!

In addition to the unique concept of the game. Black Out plays out in a revolutionary environment. A scale model of the entire city has been constructed, with houses, streetlamps, waterfront district and last but not least, animated dolls.

Blackout is a point-and-click surreal neo-noir crime FMV adventure game. It features a cast of stop-motion animated puppets, with a plot about the production of snuff films, split personality and a serial killer. This is the first real attempt at making Danish games for a mature audience. It was written by Michael Valeur and came with a book containing the game’s story in the form of a novel, to aid with understanding the game’s story and surreal sequences.

It was also only ever released in Scandinavia - but an English language version was in fact produced, just never released! Simon Løvind at the Danish Film Institute is in possession of it and I hear work is being done to get it ported to new platforms!

To quote a let’s play of the game, which currently might be the best way to experience it if you’re not a Danish speaker:“Pretentious? Sure, but this isn't your average indie pixel-art game.

Featuring a fully voice-acted cast of 60 nightmare-inducing stop-motion animated puppets, acting out a dark surreal noir story about insanity and existential angst, in a detailed scale model of a city that makes Dark City look like Pleasantville, built by 50 creative people, funded by the Danish Ministry of Culture, Blackout is so motherfucking ART it could make a bishop kick a hole in a stained-glass window.” - Simon Christiansen, https://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3731640

Over 150 tasks must be solved in order to follow the development through millennia and recreate the civilization we now know.Along the way, you must, among other things, visit a Stone Age village, ancient Egypt, Roskilde Cathedral, Sinai and places populated by Sumerians, Phoenicians and Vikings. Orfeus was a Danish company that mainly made educational software. One of their biggest accomplishments was Rod i Tiden, an educational Myst-clone in which you travel through 8 different eras to learn about the time periods. The game is very ambitious, aside from the gameplay design which mostly consists of pixel hunting for X objects spread around your current environment.Well worth a playthrough if you can find a copy and can read Danish.

@pulkomandy Thankfully many national archives do actually have most edutainment titles archived, the issue is more that they have no real legal way to make said games available to the general public due to restrictive laws.
