@pete The answer there is that we all become "robot owners" and we have an allocation of mass/energy that we can do as we please with. Combine that with an education that is lifelong and focused on entrepreneurial science and creativity at the same time and you have happy productive people with things to offer to each other, so a hybrid economic system that works in a hyper abundant environment where most work is mind work, unless you want to be a traditional artisan with physical skills.

@pete Yes, it seems that the left have both the genetics and the cultural influences against their long term survival. If you are talking about the typical inner urban hedonistic types that are first and foremost about "me" and not family. If you associate reproduction with enslavement to a group, the family, then you are perfectly able to avoid that situation, it is a matter of choice, as it should be, but people need to accept the consequences/reality of making such choices.

@pete Modern life will get even more complex and dangerous with more ways for such fools to wipe themselves out. I call those dangers "civilisation's tar-pits", they can be anything but the end result is that they become a filter that defines future generations and those generations will be more comfortable in that future which I described.

@pete There are people who do that out of habit or culture/religion, then there are those who are far more deliberate, it is a strategic decision. Both groups will flourish but probably diverge into two types of human, the naturals and the biomoders who are outward looking because once you have mastered travel to distant planets you realise that you don't really need planets and that gravity wells are actually an inconvenience. Space has everything you need if you can deal with the dangers.

@pete Now we need a study to see if infection with covid-19 via the gut gives you milder or no symptoms in people with healthy intestinal flora and immune systems, because there is plenty of more general science in that area that suggests it is one mechanism for the optimal "education" of our immune systems.

@pete It is an extension of the principles established here, https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2841828/ We evolved to process information about pathogens in a very specific way, via the gut. Therefore Ingestion of inactivated covid-19 virion fragments may be all that is required to induce an appropriate immune response. Otherwise an engineered lactobacillus as per the successful research into rotavirus prevention.

@PakkonenCT It is an interesting concept from before the ideas around hybrid fusion-fission devices were developed. Compact aneutronic fusion could produce large amounts of accelerated ions on its own, but if you are stuck with more typical fusion you can still use that with fission such that the fusion produces the neutrons to control the rate of fission with even thorium being a potential fuel option. I see no reason why the interstellar option is not viable.

@PakkonenCT The extra neutrons are also to make it more efficient, "burn" more of the fuel in a way that you can dial up and down. It also means you can use a better behaved fuel mix and transform it on the way to the nozzle.

@PakkonenCT My previous point is you can do the enrichment on the way to the nozzle then feed it as separate upgraded but still subcritical streams to the designed critical point in the nozzle. It passes through a fusion driven neutron field. This means that you don't need to fill your tanks with boron foam or whatever.

@PakkonenCT That is how it works as the fusion supplied neutrons are captured by the non-enriched isotopes and they are upgraded. fusion-fission is really funky, you can even burn nuclear waste. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_fusion%E2%80%93fission_hybrid#Hybrid_concepts

@PakkonenCT Well the basic idea would need to be tested offworld anyway as it can't even be safely prototyped on Earth. But the advanced stuff is not Sci Fi as the Chinese have already done a full engineering study/design for a hybrid reactor and the Russians have started building theirs, https://www.neimagazine.com/news/newsrussia-develops-a-fission-fusion-hybrid-reactor-6168535

@PakkonenCT The "efficient" design proposed in the paper referenced in the video is not the same as the work done in the 60's that super heated the reaction mass as it flowed through the reactor core as if it was a coolant, they really would need an offworld facility to test whatever they came up with for a transsolar system transport vehicle. Even greater impulse can be achieved by incorporating a helicon plasma thruster into the nozzle section to further accelerate the ions.

@pete "Sullivan goaded the first casualty of the event to climb through a window just before she was killed."That is about as much trouble as you can get in without actually killing somebody yourself, it is direct incitement resulting in the death of another person.Need to hear the opinion of a DC lawyer as to how that jurisdiction would see things though.
