Other instances getting a rash of suspiciously spammy-looking signups? Usernames random keysmash ending in some numbers?(I mean, digipres.club is small, "a rash" is I've seen two of those today, but still.)

So I tried out @ivory and it's quite impressive. Only Masto app I've ever seen, mobile or web/desktop, that handles lists really elegantly. Two taps to any list I want to read. Since I LIVE in lists, this is MAJOR for me.Now if they'd only CHANGE THAT GENUINELY AWFUL AND NOT-EVEN-SLIGHTLY-OKAY APP NAME. May I suggest "Tickbird"? Because they're cute and useful and hitch rides on megafauna?

Extremely random question:Does anyone besides me remember a commercial (possibly for beer?) that goes like this...A bunch of hockey goalies are having a great party when another guy walks in. They stare blankly at him in non-recognition until he puts his goalie mask on, whereupon they welcome him raucously.I didn't dream this, did I? What product was this commercial for? I want to find it but YT is coming up blank.Boosts welcome.

Hi-ho, archival-quality audio digitizers.Any of y'all using RF64 for extra-long audio files too big to save as WAV or AIFF?I keep seeing "use Broadcast WAVE" but neither Audacity nor Ocenaudio supports that.Boosts welcome.

The thought occurs that the easy way to catch ChatGPT users in higher ed is to require a works-cited section.Grade with Google Scholar up, and bam, done.

Medium appears to be paywalling basically everything. If it might be important to you that I be able to assign your writing to my students, COPY IT SOMEWHERE ACTUALLY OPEN, please. This is really frustrating. There's been a lot of solidly assignable writing on Medium, but it's all basically off-limits to me now.

It's actually interesting and possibly instructive to compare creator reactions to search-engine crawlers to their reactions to generative AI.My hypothesis is that the value exchange on search-engine crawls is pretty obvious -- crawl copies my site, search engine sends me traffic -- whereas generative AI gives back nothing, often even diminishing the value of the originals.Open to other explanations, of course.

So @404mediaco has a grant to file a ton of sunshine-law requests over library censorship (any type of library, best I can tell). They've been doing the best library news coverage anywhere. I trust them. Let's help them out. All they want is leads -- whom should they request records from?https://www.404media.co/help-us-investigate-book-bans-and-educational-censorship-around-america/Contact via Signal at jason.404; email jason@404media.co. The (sometimes root) element for a record in MODS should not be named <mods>. MODS is the language and namespace. The element should be <record>, or if they must (based on <modsCollection>) <modsRecord>.There, I said it. I used to build DTDs, and this kind of thing just itches me.
