@stux There are two potential/optional monthly/annual fees:Internet connectivity. Exactly what it says on the tin, a cellular connection for music streaming and real-time traffic. "Full" "Self" Driving. You can buy the full "FSD unlock" for a one-time price of $X000, or pay monthly $100. A bad deal either way.You could potentially jailbreak out the FSD, but it's questionable how long that would last with updates. Of course, "how long will there be updates" is also an open question now.

@foone Close enough (hah) to remind me of the chatter a few years back about ransomware that wouldn't infect if you have a Russian virtual keyboard installed.(I suspect there are more keyboards on PCs than GPSes on PCs)

@stux Yea, cheap, fast, and easy to build. We've got easy access to lumber, and plenty of land to spread single-story, single-family homes on.HUGE boom in the 40s and 50s with vets & the GI bill meant we needed a LOT of houses very, very quickly.

@stux Hell, I'm in a suburb of a tier 2 or 3 city, and most of my neighborhood was built in the late 40s. There are at least three houses on my street that are all built on the base floorplan, with small variations and additions over the last 80 years.

@stux Mine is still standing after 80 years, so I'd say it's solid enough too š My perception is things have gotten much worse since the 90s, where we really started to push the limits on the minimum requirements. On the east coast of the US, at least.Or maybe all the cheap homes from before the 90s already burned down/blew over/rotted away before I really started paying attention š¤·š»āāļø

@foone It's like that song from "The Little Mermaid", except it's a whole new world where everything is on fire and wants to kill you....did your assembler reach Australia?

@Nonilex Look, I can't imagine CVS wants to outright call Trump a liar. So I'll cut them a deal. Instead of demanding a couple hundred dollars next week when I pick up my prescriptions, I'll just take the full, unredacted release of the Epstein files. And maybe a couple packs of Altoids.

@stux Honestly, Lee was such a... self-promotional figure that I think he'd actually be perfectly happy with this crass commercialization.

@GossiTheDog Personally, I'm most excited for vibe-meetings, where our AI agents talk to each other for an hour and I can focus on more important stuff (like another BG3 run or some Hitman Freelancer missions)

@maxleibman If "device hoarding" is bad, imagine how immoral "money hoarding" must be! I'm sure there's a Washington Post or NYT editorial about how utterly repugnant it is to hold onto unimaginable piles of wealth when other humans are cold and hungry.

@futurebird +1. It's so hard to remember others don't have all the context you do.My corporate version of this is a little acronym expander box on the side of my slides every time I use a domain-specific term, and a complete list of common acronyms that gets copied & pasted to the end of every presentation.
