My New York theater weekend recap:SWING STATE (Gilman, Dir. Falls, transfer from the Goodman in Chicago): A. Perfectly constructed, beautifully acted, finely calibrated. It’s not about politics, directly; it’s about different kinds of despair (climate crisis, opioid crisis) and how people find hope.

MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG: A. The director, Maria Friedman, is sort of the star here, though Daniel Radcliffe and Jonathan Groff and Lindsay Mendez are great. She’s solved the puzzles and problems in this puzzling, problematic show and every moment lands perfectly.

RACHEL BLOOM: DEATH, LET ME DO MY SHOW: B+. Funny, charming. The second off-Broadway show of the season (after The Comeuppance) that’s secretly actually about COVID in which Death Himself is a surprise addition to the cast not listed in the program.DRACULA: A COMEDY OF TERRORS (Gordon Greenberg): B. Campy, stupid fun. The cast schmacts the hell out of it.
