@metaluneFreedoom. Classic Doom's engine is open source and there are many forks that add more advanced features. You can buy Id Software's original assets from Steam (download the game and copy the doom.wad file) or use the free community-created version distributed by the Freedoom project. Either way, there are still active online multiplayer servers and an active modding community, and some fantastic mods that take advantage of the new features in the forks

@urusan@Alonealastalovedalongthe @valrusNah, a coin is an infinite-sided prism (circle) that lands on its ends instead of its sides

@valrus @urusan @Alonealastalovedalongthe We could also skip rounding the corners and just use square coins instead

@brandon I vaguely remember Windows having an option in the mouse settings called something like "natural scroll direction".

@dajbelshawReminds me of my first job, displaying the XML output from a code coverage tool in Internet Explorer using XSLT... in 2011...I'm hoping RSS makes a comeback; I've been trying to reduce my browsing to an organized reader app, only to realize how many news sites expect you to install their app instead of offering a feed

@celia I've used #pipenv for creating Python environments, but lately have been looking at #poetry. Both allow for easy setup of Python virtual environments. With pipenv, you would just cd into the project directory and run `pipenv install django`, it'll take care of the rest.https://pipenv.pypa.io/https://python-poetry.org/

Been trying to think up a robust home #backup system (avoiding cloud providers). First thought is to attach some USB drives to my #raspberrypi. I've been reading up on #raid and #zfs, but I'm not sure which (or whether) to use. I also don't have much budget for drives - I'd like to get one now (some backup is better than no backup) and add more later.Thoughts?#askfediverse

@joeligj12 Ultimately it's up to you, but here's some questions for you to consider:Are they negligent or understaffed? Do they not know/care about these issues or do they not have the resources to do something about them?Do you want to be complainant or cooperative? Do you have technical skills and are you willing to offer to help them? If not, do you know other people that are?Your attitude towards them can have a huge effect on how receptive they are to you.

@metaluneI remember a while ago hearing people get excited about trying to set up a wireless mesh network. Basically, as long as your wifi router supports it and there are other people running mesh nodes in range, you can communicate across it. I've also heard of people sending TCP/IP traffic over HAM radio.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mesh_networkinghttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AMPRNet

@hydeFor me, LinkedIn was one of a good handful of job boards where I was sending applications. I don't remember which board led to my current employer. LinkedIn isn't special, though it was convenient when other sites could autofill most of my application from my LI account
