       The neighborhood a block away has been out of power since early on the 24th. PG&E is estimating it will be restored on the afternoon of the 29th. 😬I can hear a cacophony of generators running. Every winter the Monterey peninsula has ridiculously long outages. My German colleague at work thinks the USA is a third world country based on how often we lose power here. He said he couldn't remember ever losing power in Germany but in the year he's been here, we've even had work shutdown for several days because of no power.#Monterey #California

       Holy shit a committee member for a dissertation fed the dissertation draft into ChatGPT and asked it to decide if it was good enough. Without permission from the student. Pretty sure this is really bad for several reasons. I'm mainly concerned that the student just got screwed because suddenly his unpublished work is out in the wild and without his consent or permission. ChatGPT said it was a good dissertation so I guess the committee member will vote yes now. But wow. This dude shouldn't be a professor anymore.
