@canoegirrl @BlindGordon yes, it's an extra feature that describes imagesI've actually been using it a lot since i was traveling with super slow internet and could just read a description to know if i should wait for it to load.

@lps @martincrownover Well, I'd say get into Inkscape as a side thing to start. It's a good insurance policy in case things go really wrong to have a hand in another tool. But I don't think it's a replacement entirely. Depends on the workflows. And we're always trying to make those better. 😅 - Inkscape developer.

It's that time of year again when I ask people the question "So, what should I be working on in #inkscape next?"The full poll is open to my Patreon sponsors over at https://www.patreon.com/posts/86464943No video this week as I'm travelling for a funeral. Sorry everyone! Be back next week with some poll results and a talk about the future for my work on Inkscape.

@housepanther @thisismissem @stux Let's walk through a scenario.Microsoft come to me with a bag of money. They say "here you go Martin, for Inkscape development"I say; of course, and what work do you want me to do for Inkscape in exchange for the money.Microsoft then tell me to do some work that they have decided is important. Not what you find important, or what I find important, or what poor people need or what the economy needs. But what Microsoft want.FOSS for the rich.

@stux @rasterweb @housepanther @thisismissem Yes. That's part of the core of the idea I'm trying to express. Who pays matters; not just money, but time too.We ort to want the payment of free software to be just as federated as we want our social media.Charity or commerce, it's still investment and choices are made about who to listen to and which general public to serve. Which people get to have the freedom to modify.

*sigh*Internet went down while I was away. Modem: dead (refuses to power on), Wifi router: dead (powers on with funky light show, but no boot), Replacement modem: Cable strength too low.So now I have to wait for not quite as evil broadband company to sent a tech to do tech things to the cable wire. While my mobile phone carrier throttles my emergency hotspot connection because I've gone over 2GB in less than a day.Tomorrow is another day!

Calm your heels there @tyil. Codes of conduct have nothing to do with the GPL, we use both. Good projects should have community moderation at their core.Back to the topic at hand. HashiCorp's BSL license is a confusing mess right from the first paragraph. They're either granting more after four years which seems unlikely or trying to retroactively revoke the MPL which is not possible.Talk about failing the foss-economics exam. God I know money in foss is hard work, but still.@icedquinn

@tyil You are very much wrong. Codes of conduct were not developed by those in power to suppress those without. They were developed by those without power to hold those in power to account for their actions.Moderation is always abusable. But the existence of moderation is not in and of itself a sign of coercion. Quite the opposite.

@tyil It happened quickly because it was the right thing to do.Sometimes morality speaks and people listen. Codification was better than lazy fair leader says goes moderation that depended on deeply flawed, socially broken people. My rule of thumb is to never be involved in a large project that does not have a code of conduct. The time spent re-litigate what is acceptable every time someone tries to push undefined boundaries is wasteful and I have code to write.

@tyil @icedquinn Extraordinary claims require extra ordinary proof. But I think you have an axe to grind against the branding of a document and not anything real.

Hey #Biology folks; is animal bilateral symmetry a form of sex selected consistency checking? In computer programming we often end up with test suites which have remarkable symmetries with the code they are trying to test. And I wonder if symmetry in general is an efficient heuristic for reproducible functionality?#compsci #programming #evolution #testing

@bragefuglseth I wouldn't advertise the licence per say, but that it is foss is important politics and refusing to communicate to users is an admission that software politics don't matter to your project. Part of the project is always going to be explaining patiently and persistently why foss is important to a public that doesn't care yet.

@cassidy @bragefuglseth I think you've missed the point I was trying to make.Though now you bring it up. Why are app stores showing the specific license. That seems a bit too specific for user focused UI.

I'm particularly proud today that we have been keeping to an annual release schedule for 4 years strait. Before 1.0 #inkscape had 3 and 5 years between major releases.I know this isn't product features and so isn't exciting. But it is very difficult in #OpenSource to keep this large a project moving without a business, without employees. It's remarkable and the volunteers who help pull this off are worth commending for their efforts.

Reminder: #FreeSoftware #OpenSource #foss projects are not products that provide support. Companies provide support. Volunteers provide assistance. If you attempt what this #inkscape user just tried; I will have to ban you from our project as it's bullying. You may not use #psychological bullshit to attempt to coerce project contributors to do your bidding. EVEN if you are right. This arsehole was even more out of line because the issue was fixed. He just wanted it released NOW! 🙄
